On the plus side. We don't have 6 year olds "not accidentally" shooting teachers in the UK...I guess things could all be a whole lot more fcuked.

Re: The Politics Thread
Yeah but lots of those things some GPs do. The issue is as Streeting points out as private practices they find ‘efficiencies’ in having centralised blood services. And hence stop doing it in house.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 2:24 pmSorta doesn't matter where it was 14 years ago (by the time the next election comes), it's how to repair it now. The amount we're spending on healthcare are a % of GDP has actually stayed the same for most of that time. I genuinely don't care much about the politics of it. It's too important a service. Just needs fixing.
It feels to me like we're over-complicating too many services. When you see your GP, they can no longer take a fcking blood sample - off you pop to a clinic some miles away and they'll do it. Who dreamt that clusterfcuk up? Things like "freezing a wart" now require a hospital appointment. It's nonsensical, you want to fix as many things as possible on that first contact. But because there aren't enough GPs, they simplify first contact as far as possible to do little other than pass you onto six other agencies. If I need a flu jab, I don't really care who the fcuk does it.
The other thing that really annoys me. When you're in hospital, your GP still "owns you" as a patient (broadly) and is supposed to try and co-ordinate between various hospital specialisms. For me when you're in hospital, the baton should move to a hospital based clinician who oversees everything that needs doing. At the moment, you end up trying to project manage your own care. It's screwed.
That is part of the problem. And agree. The lack of genuine primary and secondary care coordination is infuriating. Patients shouldn’t be relying on GP coordination because it’s just a mess.
Re: The Politics Thread
I’ll write a more detailed reply later when I get time, but I’m still just as angry about Streeting’s suggestions. Essentially the problem is with inadequate funding in primary care rather than partnerships which have been shown time and time again to be the most efficient way of providing care.

I don’t think I’ve heard much more grim things than Braverman this week being called out for being a Nazi, refusing to apologise then using her government office to spread misinformation. These people are despicable on a level I can’t even comprehend. The sooner they are gone from office the better.

The whole thing needs more open debate, for me, as they neatly side-step that most immigration to the UK is entirely legal and government approved and that's not a problem they're really prepared to try and solve. They promised at various stages to cap migration at <100,000 and last year let in over 500,000 (net) - the highest figure ever. So it's quite convenient for them to be pointing at people in boats whose numbers are way below that. I don't believe we can continue to have a growth strategy that is reliant on immigration as it currently is. It need sorting out. We're never going to be able to let enough people in, to compete with China, so we need to change our business model, stop pretending we can continue to compete with all the large countries and develop something that works for us, instead of worsening the situation by running headlong into it.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:10 amI don’t think I’ve heard much more grim things than Braverman this week being called out for being a Nazi, refusing to apologise then using her government office to spread misinformation. I wonder how many Albanian gang members, multi-national slave traders and just common thugs and criminal immigrants, managed to be settled here? Do they grow them under heat lamps like cannabis plants?

Yep. I don’t think many people in the UK want unfettered immigration. I do think we want a fair system that helps people. And apart from the likes of the vile BNP (who I note specifically endorsed Braverman’s comments) I don’t think people want politicians using the language of Nazis.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:33 amThe whole thing needs more open debate, for me, as they neatly side-step that most immigration to the UK is entirely legal and government approved and that's not a problem they're really prepared to try and solve. It gets even better, labour won't allow Compo to stand for them if he fights his seat in the next election.

Love her or hate her, and I think I know where you stand, you can't deny she has been an extremely effective politician for the SNP.
Her getting tongue tied over the trans prisoner last month is one of the few moments I can ever remember seeing her floundering.

And surprising given how ridiculous a line of questioning was given the new GRC has absolutely nothing to do with where people are placed in prisons.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 2:14 pmLove her or hate her, and I think I know where you stand, you can't deny she has been an extremely effective politician for the SNP.

"The current system doesn't provide adequate protection for women so why are you bringing in rules to further lessen those protections?" is neither a ridiculous line nor difficult to see why she struggled.
Don't really get why people are impressed with her. Despite a historically unpopular Tory party, even by Scottish standards they're no nearer independence then when she took over, and Scotland performs terribly in any number of areas where policy is devolved and within SNP control. She's good at a platitude-filled interview though.

Re: The Politics Thread
That was my take on it. I think most reasonable, right minded people are OK with self determination but critics have always cited the loos and prisons as a problematic area with that view. In the end she practically said "A trans woman is a woman. Except when they've committed a crime. Then they might still be a man!" It'd be nice to see an honest, frank debate on the topic without cries of 'Terf' and 'anti women'.
The case for Scottish Independence is surely much stronger now than it was prior to her being appointed? They've pretty much wiped out any opposition in Scotland, although that probably started under Salmonds watch.

A BBC Scotland reporter asked her if she was Transphobic because she's wasn't initially committing to have Trans women in Female prisonsHarry Genshaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 2:14 pmLove her or hate her, and I think I know where you stand, you can't deny she has been an extremely effective politician for the SNP.

When that trans woman then won her case, the same reporter asked her why she doesn't care for CIS women's safety
Damned if you do, damned if you don't - An impossible situation.
She's absolutely despised by Tory Britain, so she must have been doing something right.

Correct. I'm generally ok with people deciding who/what they want to be, but I don't think the whole world and it's laws should necessarily move to accommodate it. I look at Isla Bryson, who commits two rapes of females as a bloke in 2016 and 2019, appeared at his first trial as a bloke called Alex, then decides he's going to transition. So we decide we're going to lock him up in a women's prison? I don't understand the dilemma - you're going to the bloke's pokey and you can fcuking transition when you've served your time.

Absolutely where I am - But in the realm of politics, there's a vocal minority labelling you a bigot for that completely reasonable, sensible and normal viewpoint.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 4:15 pmCorrect. It is because GRC did NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH to lessen the protections of women in prisons. It changed - with regard to incarceration, precisely zilch. The only people who are pretending it did are right wing nutjobs so I'm a bit disappointed in you here!
