Got chatting to a few locals down here today. They weren't confident! Their win at Northampton, an outlier apparently, easily their best performance of the season. The 2 groups we spoke to would all take a point now if offered. TBH so would I!

The tougher the Portsmouth game is, the better, because if we really have the desire and ambition to be promoted it's going to get harder, not easier, and there surely won't be many seven- nil's around.

Whilst I take your point, I will happily accept a total Pompey collapse and a walkover win for the Whites.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:17 pmThe tougher the Portsmouth game is, the better, because if we really have the desire and ambition to be promoted it's going to get harder, not easier, and there surely won't be many seven- nil's around.

Should we win that'd be nice as it would be an indicator to how good we are. I'd quite happily take Portsmouth's capitulation and a decent score line. I don't think its a case of us having confidence that we're the best team in the league, I think its about getting out of this league and progressing, doesn't matter how we do it.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:17 pmThe tougher the Portsmouth game is, the better, because if we really have the desire and ambition to be promoted it's going to get harder, not easier, and there surely won't be many seven- nil's around.

It doesn't matter... up to a point. There's a reason Todd's 96/97 promotion side are more fondly remembered than Parky's two decades later. We love to see our heroes win in style, and indeed in comfort.Mar wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 6:08 pmShould we win that'd be nice as it would be an indicator to how good we are. Now, back in '17, none of us refused the promotion and insisted we try again with more panache. And as I've said before, that side's defensive resilience had its own charming majesty. But this side appears to score well AND keep record-rewriting levels of defensive tidiness.
In terms of what happens the following season, one can argue it doesn't make much difference. Todd's team was relegated and Parky's stayed up (albeit on a record-breakingly low ppg compared to Todd's team, who got just 3 fewer points from 8 fewer games). But I don't think it can be argued that a team which grinds and squeaks to promotion is a less enticing prospect – for players, fans, sponsors – than one which buckles swashes.
Would I take a 1-0 win tomorrow with a deflection off their goalie's arse? I'd love it. Would it be better if we pancake them 4-0? Sure would.

It's a glorious, crisp day. The birds are singing. Christmas is just around the corner.
Good day for a win.

It is also the day for the "lads Christmas curry, night" with a couple of us Bolton fans...we did a stirling job of keeping them off a 20:00 start!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 9:12 amIt's a glorious, crisp day. The birds are singing. Christmas is just around the corner.

I'm patting down the cushions as we speak. The dust is causing a fair few sneezes but I shall have the recently repaired couch out in all it's glory for an evening of fun and frolics.
I'm off out for a traditional Indian Christmas dinner too, I'll try and keep an eye on it but I may have had a few too many Kingfisher to care. Fingers crossed the couch legs remain steady.

I've just fled from Sky* to Virgin - does anyone know if Now works over there, or is there a different method on Beardy-Boy's Box?
*After 22 years - as a tech journo back then, I was one of the first people in the country to get a Sky+ box and the damn fools didn't stop my VIP membership for a decade

I think you'll need the now app (rather than a channel). From memory you can get that on the virgin box though apps weren't the easiest to find. Or if you have a smart TV (or fire stick type gizmo) you can download the now app directly.
