No nonsense, Ronseal type of deal. Barnsley Away. 3rd May 2024 19.30pm

^^Agreed. All the rest is history; we're in a three match league at best now and it's a sudden death one. Two games to win then Wembley as the prize, and then the coconut. Best to forget anything but beating the Yorkshire puds twice, once at Oakwell, then "Winter Hill, baht tat". League positions and facts and figures can be forgotten in favour of a ding-dong Yorks, v Lancs war of the Roses scrap where none but the brave will triumph. With so much at stake, I doubt it will merit the title "Civil" War. As ever, it's Que Sera. Although our roses are red, it's..COME ON YOU WHITES... :Jedi:

Hypothetically, would you take a draw on Friday?

How many ways could we answer this? Right now, it wouldn't be a bad result.

Should we be 2-up and end up 3-3, I'd think we'd probably given them momentum, should we be 2-down and end up 3-3 I'd be pretty happy. Over "history" it's been fairly even...

I mean, I'd prefer 0-4, we've scored more and conceded less, but I worry that this will be more about game management than just putting the ball in the net. Hopefully, their new fella will be a bit clueless...

We have pretty much everything in our favour going into Friday, so anything less than a win would be disappointing for me.

I mean as worthy says it depends on context.

But for me now I would not. I think the most likely way we win the semi final is if we go in grab the tie by the horns and refuse to let go.

In our past play off campaign successes we’ve come from behind. We got absolutely battered off the park at wolves and were very lucky to be 2-1 down only. But you sorta knew we’d turn that round at Burnden because the character of that team was exceptional. And we had the away goal. They counted back then. And we did. And west Brom managed by one G Megson had us two down at half time after Robert’s and Hughes ripped us apart for about twenty minutes. I was worried at half time. But again that team had real real character and by the end of that game we walked out thumping the air. Even though as Megson suggested our home form was ropey it was just always going to be we got through after the comeback.

I don’t feel this is the same sort of side. I’d not be mad confident if we drew away and game was right with 20 minutes left at our place.

Gun, help me to understand the "everything" we have going in our favour on Friday so that I can be as optimistic. For one not in our favour, we are playing away from home, havent done well against them in the past, they knocked us out of the playoffs last season, we are leaking too many goals, they have Luca Connell back playing in their midfield after missing some games due to injury.

Please put me on the right track.

They've scored less, conceded more, have a worse head to head record, their last 5 were three losses two draws, they're on a temporary manager - dunno where else to go with it - that doesn't mean "we win," but it's not a bad starting point.

With our home form, I'd be glad to get out of Oakwell with a draw, especially if we're under the cosh a bit, but I believe we can go there and win.

We'll likely be the better side on the night, have more ball and create more chances. It's about f-in time we won one of them!

I wouldn't like them to bring a 1 or god forbid a 2 goal cushion to our place.
They would sit back and try and hit us on the break, so best way to avoid this scenario is go there and win !!
As has been pointed out above they are on a pretty poor run of results and just scraped into 6th so long may that poor run continue
People haven't got a good word for you, but i have T**T.

On reflection, this is where I'm at roughly!

Our away form over the season and our record at Barnsley, suggests a draw is as much as we should be expecting. I'd definitely take that right now because I fancy us to beat them at home.

Point of order….we’ve won away at Barnsley more recently than we’ve beaten them at home….

Fair. I'm of a vintage, that I'm sure most of us on here are, who remembers us winning there for the first time in about 80 years. Patterson winner or am I confusing it with Bristol City?

Any road, whilst I'm often pessimistic about our chances in games (not as pessimistic as you mind!) I fancy us over 2 legs against this lot.
