Agree with all those points @DSB. I suspect the plan is to play Collins up top on his own but whether that works or not remains to be seen.
Be interesting to see what shape he picks for Tuesday because I’m less convinced the 4 works so well away especially away at Wrexham or the better sides.

Full 90 is on Wanderers TV now.Jeux sans frontiéres wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 6:34 pmI was out and about today and am gutted to have missed it.
As a technical Luddite, is there any way I can watch the whole game back? I don’t feel like the 2 minute sky sport highlight reel is going to cut it this time.

Telly tonight sorted. Looking forward to this one - especially with the hindsight of the tactical analysis by DSB!

The other thing I forgot to say is that Schumacher's sidekick Richie Kyle worked for the England youth teams as an "out of possession coach" so hopefully he will be able to shore up the porous midfield that I mentioned. If we can get that side of it tidied and organised, we've got some zip going forward and we might not have to score four to win...

Well that was fun! I liked the inverted wingers playing high, though it did leave us a little exposed. Concerning how poorly Toal played. He looked slow, flat-footed, indecisive and probably cost us a couple of goals - He has credit with us though, so fair enough. Hopefully just one of those days.
JOT was excellent in that second half, especially. Absolutely rinsed them.
Sheehans range and weight of passing is just sublime. What a footballer he is.

Toal looked massively out of sorts but I think the system change at the back certainly didn’t help him - will take some getting used to I think. And we have to work out the best partnership for that if we play a back four more frequently. It’s interesting that Forrester got the stick post match but like you I felt Toal was the bigger issue on the day. To be honest the whole teams defensive structure fell apart at times as we got split with big gap between the 1/3 and the rest at times - I think that needs work.boltonboris wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 9:37 amWell that was fun! Aye, for the 2nd goal, Toal looks out of position, has to sprint too far to recover and can't change direction quickly enough as he's on his heels. 3rd Goal, his body shape and position is wrong. Leaves the striker with only 1 real option which is the one you don't want him to take. He finished well to be fair. All 3 of their goals were good finishes.
Southwood is a strange cat too.. Looks a good keeper, but as somebody in front of me pointed out early in the game, if it's not right at him, he's probably not saving it. And so it became

Yeah, to be consistent, I am adding it to the list of games we concede 2 or more. My worries about our defending haven't gone away, but given we now clearly have an out of possession coach, they're going to need time. Like Evatt used to say "winning's a habit," so's consistantly piss poor defending.
I still think Sheehan makes us tick better in the final third than the mid-third where where he's fine going forwards and when we're on top...

Benchcam for Saturday's goals.
Not a major thing but I have to say I've never liked managers (non-)reacting to goals with studied indifference, like a Rafa Benitez - calmly making notes in his book or whatever. Come on mate, goals are why we're all here, don't pretend you don't care.
On the other side – and Ilesy's made this point – I think it's refreshing that Schumacher seems so calm in his technical area compared to the often overwrought Evatt: the jack-in-the-box schtick doesn't work for long.
However, I'd say I like the tone of Schumacher's reactions to our goals - and they differ as they go along.... enjoy.

Yeah you got the feeling that it wasn’t a crushing blow to Schuey if we’d lost Saturday. That he’s in control of his emotions and can take the ups and downs in his stride. Which is what other managers have claimed but their behaviour was telling a different story.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 1:49 pmBenchcam for Saturday's goals.

I also think it’s good that he neither ignored the goals nor knee slid down to the north stand. I love Jose but imitation acts aren’t usually good.

I particularly liked the players reaction from the bench for the winning goal
