If I could work out how to post a picture on here I'd do this with lineup builder, but as is I'll have to do it manually.

A guess at our strongest lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Dalby in the building:

Southwood

JDC Toal Johnston Conway

Morley Sheehan

Tutu Randall Collins

Dalby
When you build your post, scroll past Save Draft/Preview/Submit to where there are two + signs in blue boxes - Options and attachments.

Hit attachment, hit little button saying add files. when it's been uploaded, hit "place inline"

Job done.

That worries me. They could go straight through Randall and Sheehan. No idea whether Conway is anywhere near good enough to sit the same side as Sheehan, behind Collins, Tutu terrifies me, defensively, Apart from that - mid table.

I think I'll wait until we've finished the window, before offering formation thoughts.

Cheers, Worthy.

Although there will be disagreements as to what our strongest XI is, I thought it was somewhat interesting to throw that out there to show the ‘state of play’. It certainly highlights some deficiencies.

Aye. The “depth charts” done by people like BWFC Analysis show a hideous imbalance.

A quiet three months coming up from you :D

Whatever the formation, I definitely think we need a new, solid, teak-tough central midfielder. And a left-back of some sort because as you say we don’t know how good Conway is at this level (so it might be two left-backs). A winger who can cross (we’ll see how good Schon and JOT are at this heretofore unused side of their game). A goalkeeper. A pacy striker. And I’d like a leader at centre-back. Apart from that, we’re set :D

No sir! We can always offer opinion on underwhelming signings, without even knowing what formation we might have! :-)

You just keep that teak tough midfielder at the front of the queue, mate. :-)

I think Thomason, unless we sign a couple of genuine top-quality midfielders, has to be one of the starters in that engine room. He can play along either Sheehan or Morley. I remain to be convinced that a Sheehan-Morley midfield has anywhere near enough bite - passing range for days, though.

I don’t see any combination of Thomason, Morley and Sheehan being much better than another. I’d be looking to sell one of them.

I think it's a bit situational - if we think we're going to be on the front foot, I'd me more likely to play Sheehan/Morley, if we're in for more of a fight, I'd probably prefer Morley/Thommo.

Lots of talk around Sheehan in that midfield. I for one am praying we get a bid in for him. He's woeful defensively and doesn't offer enough going forward. He's been a major factor in some of our losses last season, failing to put a foot in and constantly slowing the pace down to a crawl ( Baxter being the other main offender). Id be shipping him out sharpish.

It worked so well for them in the last window. (And us in the one before.)

Sheehan, Morley and Randall is a midfield that in my mind has zero and I mean this zero chance of getting us out this league.

Morley needs a more physical and defensive type to partner. Then it’s Sheehan, Randall or Thomasson to fight it out for the hard running behind the striker vela type role. Cover a lot of ground, score goals, lead the press.

That’s how I see it.

Obvs I’d like to sign a much better Kieran Lee/Vela type but realistically we won’t unless we can sell someone.

Meh - he has good spells and bad spells but the bottom line is he’s never in a million years a league one level 6 or 8 and we simply need to accept that, stop pretending and live with what he is or as you say sell him. He’s not going to improve. He has to play the running hard, pressing Kieran Lee role and add goals in that or I don’t think he’s got a role especially in a 4231/433 system.

Looking forward to getting the Dalby deal done and dusted. Agree with the cries for a physical enforcer type. Odoffin from Rotherham has probably already been mentioned – but he might be a good 'un.

This, if those 3 are our midfield next season we may as well throw the towel in now, we will not go up IMO with those 3 as our starting midfielders. We need to cash in on Sheehan whilst he's still in the Wales squad, IMO he's not suited to League 1 football and Thomason should be a squad player if we have have serious ambitions on promotion.

On the reveal video he looks a lot broader than I thought, he's a big unit
