For what it's worth, the Trotter Chatter podcasters are linking us with Ennis and Barkhuizen.

The sun is out, we have coffee in the back garden, everything is fine with the world. No, I wouldn't go back to Dion, either. The notion that somehow Collins might have been any sort of upgrade, doesn't sit well and he certainly wasn't additive to Dion. I took DSB's "thought experiment" a bit further and looked at all our +10 League scorers, since we upped from L2.

DSB thought experiment.png

I'm not spotting much other than "backwards" with Collins and McAtee as our 2 leading scorers and to be fair I reckon both Kacha and Dion were better at pressing than either. So we were worse off and lost a decent press.

I'm not surprised the Manager and Sporting director went after pairing up them two.
Interesting spreadsheet there. Dion is missing from the 24/25 listings.

Fully agree those making the decisions up top should've gone based on those stats. The whole idea of having four up top was just crazy when we're constantly overrun in midfield.

^^ Don't think Dion got to 10 in the league for us in 24/25?

Not sure Barkhuizen was a brill idea 3 years back. Isn't he pushing 30 now? I mean that might count as one of Schumacher's older heads....

Are they renowned for being ‘itk’, or are they likely just rehashing old links?

He'll be 32 in a couple of weeks. That's proper old.

Depends who you ask. They have often confidently proclaimed certain deals are "done", but usually a while after the name has been surfaced and discussed at length. Last week they said Kelly Nmai was "next" and Twitterers have not been slow to point out that the deal doesn't exactly seem to be progressing at pace.

I had a quick look and nobody has linked Barkhuizen with Bolton for a long time, but on the other hand it's also not the weirdest guess (experienced, promotion winner, capable of playing both wings).

He's 32 in a fortnight. Until then, I suppose, he's 31.

Schumacher has said he wants to add someone over 30
to the squad so it wouldn’t shock me. I mean our vacant areas are out wide and left back.

I have to say I wouldn’t be overly enamoured with the idea of either Ennis or Barkhuizen.

We need wide players, but preferably not aging ones, and Ennis looks like another of the type of signing that has got us into trouble these past few years.

Personally, I'd take Ennis in a heartbeat. A pacey striker playing off Dalby, he's the type of player we need. Barkuizen less so. He could prove to be a shrewd signing......or he could be another Nicky Summerbee.

I understand why folk might fear either. I like the idea of Ennis, who's the pacy line-breaker we need, but I understand why people might think he's a risk. Barkhuizen is a decent player, experienced and versatile, but again he's knocking on.

We probably do need an Ennis type, but I’m just wary of paying another big fee (and big wages) for a peak age player unproven above League One.

Need LB, plus cover/comp for all three forward positions, unless we're content with McAtee/Lolos/Vic/Dan.
I make it 24 in first-team squad – these 21 plus Warren, Forrester & Lolos.
EFL squad is 22 overage outfielders; we have 22 unless Warren is underage.
To fit another 4 in, we have to get rid of 4.
Who?

I'd venture to suggest then when you compare similar numbers of goals, but far fewer points per minute, the difference might be the useless c*nts at the other end.

You don't pick the order you sign people, but so far for me the only player we've signed who addresses a glaring need is Dalby, and maybe Taylor. Still nothing out wide.

Replying to DSB - of those, probably Lolos, Dan, Johnston and deregister Vic

2 wingers, a LB and a striker plus one other (not sure where).

Makes sense to me; although it's somewhat kicking the can down the road with Vic, I think the big decision over him wil be in January. (On deregistering: I believe excluded players can still play in the EFL Trophy, so if Vic were to return from injury in "October/November", as Schuey said, he could get two or three games in that, judging by last year's schedule.)

I do think there are others beyond those four for whom we'd entertain offers. Well, every man has his price, but I'm thinking specifically of CMG, Sheehan, McAtee; perhaps Schon, if anyone's interested at the right price; same for Randall, though that would be swallowing a loss.

And yeah, I do think there may be a wildcard signing in a position we're not really short in. In a 4-3-3 that essentially means centre-back or centre-mid, and you'd imagine it to be an ageing warrior. But aren't most of them already available?

From what Schumacher has said that’s a given.

You aren’t getting premiership loans unless you plan to
play them.
