In Iles' latest article he has Schumacher quoted as saying he wants more "personalities", which would seem to confirm he's referring to the type of person rather than mere numbers.

Whether he means leaders or "good in the dressing room" types, or both, I suppose we'll soon find out.
Not sure he didn't actually say "characters," but it certainly came across as "type of person." Not difficult last season to see us go flat then flatter, with shruggy shoulders and team mates not looking each other in the eye

To be fair, the quotes will almost certainly be from different interviews.

But yeah, I couldn't agree more and I doubt there's anyone connected to the club who wouldn't feel the same. It's a huge priority so I'm glad it's been recognised.

Just curious, but does anyone know if we nominated a Captain for the game yesterday?

Good question. The published line-ups for each half didn't indicate a captain and there's no reference in the club's match report.

Cheers Tony & Bertie. The rumour that GT is wanted by Huddersfield has raised its head again. More than likely it is just a rumour.

My hunch and it’s no more than a hunch is that we looked at Ceesay primarily in case GT left - I suspect that he was the replacement and that it’s not happening may mean GT is not leaving.

Good.
It would be a shame imo if he left now - I’d like to give him a proper go with a more normal setup. He will always give 100% and I think if we are more focused on a solid shape off the ball and are a more compact team he is the sort of player you need.

Yeah, that could be it. I’d rather stick with what we know.
Let’s concentrate on getting more firepower now.

I meant to say I’d rather stick with what we have. Warm weather, beer and in-laws got in the way 😊

The article published this morning by Marc Iles, he sounds quite upbeat and I can’t remember him being this optimistic pre season, anyway 3 weeks today, can’t wait.

Nixon has apparently linked Stockport with Forrester. I wouldn’t especially want him going there, but I suspect Bolton would be willing to do a deal.

Ah was going to ask which defender. He’s injured though.

Also sounds like he’s suggesting Huddersfield are making a bid for Thomason.

I'm not sure exactly where this optimism is coming from, it can only be from the atmosphere and camaraderie on the Marbella tour that SS and his staff have created - compared to Evatt's shit show, which is commendable.

However in terms of the playing squad, unless SS brings in at least 2 x top drawer game changing players in the next few weeks personally I think that it will be a serious challenge just to get into the play offs. I have us finishing 6th or 7th as it stands today.

I think I'd agree. At least in the sense I don't expect us to be right up there currently.

My gut feel is that TSL will be a good signing and I'm intrigued by Cozier-Duberry but I've not yet thought we've made any signings that move the dial, as our previous managerial incumbent would say.

So I'm also a bit confused about the optimism I'm seeing and it feels a little reminiscent to me of the first transfer window under FV, when people were getting excited about "moneyball" signings like Hickman and Comley.

A lot of work to be done.

To be fair, I'm also intrigued about Warren and hope that he has a big future.

Despite Schumacher's warm words though, he presumably still has quite a bit of developing to do.

It’s obv a little early to have strong opinions on any of our new signings, but I’m optimistic about Taylor, Simons, TSL and Cozier-Dubbery. I’d say the latter pair have the potential to be ‘too good for the level’ types.

To be fair to Iles(he’s not a relative) he’s been in Spain for the week and seen them training etc but it could also be Schumacher is an enthusiastic and optimistic character, which is in stark contrast to Evatt, so, It could just be this.

We definitely need two very good strikers though, or as you say top drawer players.

I think much of it depends how much you rated or not the lower league journeymen squad we had assembled that was talked up to ridiculous extents imo.

What we’ve signed this season all have higher ceilings than what we had before but there is no guarantee they hit their peak here.

But the peak of what we had before was probably bottling league one play offs. They were simply not a promotion side.

What we have now clearly needs some more additions but I think on paper is an upgrade on what we had previously. Whether it works out or not who knows. I mean we clearly aren’t in a position to buy sure things to lift us out the league. If you want to do that then I can see it being underwhelming. I just never thought we’d be in the position to this time. That is what we tried last summer and spent money on players who had their career highlights at non league grimsby etc…for inflated fees. If that money had been properly spent we’d not be down here.

IMO for us to seriously have a chance to challenge for promotion, these two strikers that SS says he still wants need to be proven & names that at least a few fans may of have previously heard of (apart from googling !) - players who we all go 'now then that's a good signing, he will score goals in this league'.

Is there a particular reason why I should think, for example, Thierry Gale has a higher ceiling than Aaron Collins?

Or Richard Taylor a higher ceiling than Jack Iredale.

To be clear, I dearly hope they do, I'm just not sure why I should think it based on the information we have today.
