Yeah, it's a bit tepid. Schuey borrowed him halfway through Plymouth's promotion season and picked him in the matchday squad for all 23 league games thereafter, using him 21 times – but only 8 in the starting lineup. Then last season, Jay was in just 6 of Schuey's 15 league starting XIs, with 6 more sub appearances. And that was much more Evatt's squad.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:25 pmNot sure Schumacher is a big fan?TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:19 pmMatete anyone? He's in the final year of his contract at Sunderland, but has been advised to find a new club. I assume it would be a free transfer.
I mean if he was free (which he might not be) and Thomason goes for £750k, he could fill a gap - but I don't think Schuey will bust a gut.

I'm not saying that your wrong, and its only my personal opinion but I really hope he's not.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:41 pmGot a funny feeling that our next captain is already here. Forino.
1. I'm not totally convinced by him as a player never mind a captain.
2. I think that we need someone a little more vocal & can lead by example, in the few games that I've seen Forino play he doesn't seem fully switched on and looks like he's going through the motions
For what its worth I think that it will be Thomason (if he's still here) or a new experienced signing (which is possibly wishful thinking) or even Toal who I think would make a decent captain.

Wonder whether Hutchinson's departure on loan means that we're close to making a decision on this trialist keeper - Nathan Broomes, is it?

A new Broome to give Hutch the brush off?

He definitely leads by example. Won an award for community work and was the only player not to feck off early at the End of Season do!Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 6:01 pmI'm not saying that your wrong, and its only my personal opinion but I really hope he's not.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:41 pmGot a funny feeling that our next captain is already here. He had a poor season, but provided the occasional moment of quality. And I know he’s not home-grown, but he may as well be—he’d die for the badge. We still have countless difficult derbies next season; I’d want someone who gives a shite. Be gutted to see him go. Young northern lad—we all should.

Please don’t sell Thomason. It was clear last night that him and Simons will be the best partnership for a physical away match and there will be plenty of those this season.

Another observation from last night is Sheehan and Morley is not going to work as they are too similar. I like them both but not together in that formation.

One thing that stood out to me in the two friendlies is the new players are a step up on the ones that were here last season. So I'm inclined to trust the scouting team. The usual caveats about YouTube aside, I've got to say he looks incredible in that video. Although you do have to wonder if he's that good why he's had such an uninspiring career so far.

A player I’ve never heard of till about 5 minutes ago. But one I will be massively annoyed if we don’t sign because well it’s summer and what else is there to be bothered by?

Him or someone else I've never heard of either.
Or someone I've heard of.

I'd be concerned if they were all permanent moves but half are loans while young.

Yes, though he turned 24 yesterday (same age as Thomason & Forrester) and is still on loan! I guess what I meant was he's never had a decent run of games in five years, which puts me off a bit. But, who knows if it's anything more than gossip?

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
His moves strike me as indicative of football's globalisation and its players' commodification.
Time was a North Macedonian - well, When I Were A Lad it were a Yugoslavian - would play well in his home country, maybe get bought by that country's biggest club (routinely defined as a "crack Eastern European outfit"), and then sold to probably an Italian team.
Tosh here, well he was still 18 when he was signed by a Russian top-flight club. They loaned him to a smaller Russian club, a Polish club and a Slovakian club.
Then Uncle Vlad decided to knock through into next door, without the requisite planning permission. Awkward. Contract mutually terminated, Tosh moved to Austrian top-flighters, who then loaned him to their partner club in, of course, Croatia. And when the Austrians were relegated, his release clause kicked in.

From a clip reel perspective, there was plenty of woeful defending and space for him, but as with some of the other clip reels, for me, Schumacher and his team (or Fergal and his team if you prefer), need the space to do what they think might work.
Like Bertie, I'm not looking for my boarding pass to HMS right now - but if the sum of the parts is better than last year, when we also signed trolly's full of 10's and random others, then we have a chance. Wycombe were hardly full of household names either, but they had a pretty good season, as did Charlton after unloading their top scorer...
We look like we've worked some on defensive shape and it's a bit tricky to judge up front without Dalby playing...
