The Wanderer

Post by Soldier_Of_The_White_Army » Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:00 am

Just to let those of you that appeared in, or read it. I have finally found a publisher that will take the novel on and will have it ready and sent out to the main book stores in January 2007 (confirmed). They said it would be ready for Christmas, but due to the fact that most stores fill their book shelves with the main players ready for the Christmas rush it was better to wait. Come January there should be plenty of empty spaces on the shelves for new authors.

So what's so exciting about this? The fact that because I am self publishing through Authorhouse, they have agreed to give me full creative control, which means that none of the names change (most I had contacted before wanted to change Bench and Gertie along with some others) and the main team will be Bolton and not fxcking Spurs as was suggested by another company. So Commie, Crazy Horse, Bench, Bruce, Gertie et al, prepare to become immortal :D

Roll on January!

All I need now is a front cover to send them.

KEVEH!

The hardest part has been putting it into the correct format, and proof reading it, which has taken me longer to do then it took me to write the damn thing!

But thanks to some inestimable help from someone who will remain nameless *cough* Zulu *cough* it is now more or less complete and ready to send of to Authorhouse in disk form.

As well as adding Acknowledgements, Dedications, Chapter listing and the Introduction:

Introduction

The Wanderer was written to show the different sides of human nature when society breaks down. It also shows man’s persistence to create different classes and form segregation, even when mankind is on the brink of extinction.
This is the story of not one person or class but the different people and classes that now reside in a dying world, drawn together to fight against a tyranny that threatens their very existence.
After a nuclear war that almost wiped all life from the planet, one country remained habitable for the last remaining life on Earth, were humans are placed into two classes, those that are privileged are known as ‘Vault Dwellers’ and are given the opportunity to live in the city sized vaults deep underground were life continues as it did before the holocaust. The Uplanders are those that were deemed unworthy of Earth’s last remaining haven and left to walk the scorched earth were only the strong survive.
Two people now hold the fate of the Uplanders in their hands, one fights to create a single society and bring the cursed down into the vaults and the other fights to leave them to their fate and through his quenchless thirst for power gain total control the vaults. It is a battle that will bring together in unison every class to fight for mans right to exist. This is the story of that battle, this is the story of ’The Wanderer’.
Writing the novel was the easy part! :?

Just on the distribution line...

Have you thought about contacting Barry Calvert (Head of Retail) with a view to putting some copies in the ClubShop?

Also which (southern franchised) bookshops are we talking about?

Congrats, SOTWA - I always found proof-reading the worst part because I read what should be there, not what is. Easier to proof-read someone else's work.

Well, I recieved this e mail this morning:

Dear Mark,

Thank you very much for your time earlier today. It was a pleasure to speak with you and learn more about yourself and your work.

I wanted to give you some background information on AuthorHouse, the services we provide and the costs for our services.

I will be your personal publishing adviser and I am here to help to guide and support you throughout the publishing process.

AuthorHouse will turn your manuscript into a high quality paperback with a minimal investment on your part. The text of the book belongs to you and you alone, we want you to remain in creative control of your work. You will make the key decision from submitting your manuscript to seeing your book through the publication.

You retain full ownership and copyright of your work. That means you can pursue all publishing options, including selling the film and TV rights to your book.

AuthorHouse uses print-on-demand *technology , you will be able to print as many copies as you need when you need them. You will be able to select an option from a flexible royalty plan that will typically pay you more than a traditional publisher would.

Your book will normally be in print between 2 and 4 months after you submit your manuscript. Your book will be made available for order at retail outlets worldwide via Bertrams, Gardeners, Nielsen BookData and US-Based Ingram. It will also be available via major US and UK Internet retailers and the AuthorHouse online store.

* Print-On_Demand is the term given to an innovative high-quality digital printing technology which allows books to be printed one at a time or in small quantities in response to customer orders. Therefore this eliminates the need for substantial investment in inventory, distribution and warehousing.

In conclusion you maintain complete creative control and retain all rights to your work. AuthorHouse empowers you with creative control of your work, from manuscript submission through production. You have your personal publishing adviser (myself), who supports and guides you throughout your publishing journey. And finally you get quick results, your book can be in print within 2 to 4 months of manuscript submission.

The Standard Publishing Package below is all you need to get your voice in print and get your book onto the worldwide distribution market.

Indeed - have done some proof-reading for my mate (now onto his third book) and he says he always misses stuff for the above reason, sometimes incredibly easy typos.

Good luck with it all, chaps :)
