'You' are now loaded

Post by burnden58 » Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:00 pm

The two lads who owned You Tube have just sold it for £800 million to Google

Apparently it has only been going for a short while. The two twenty year olds will get approximately £400 million each.

I wish I'd thought of it

From what I can gather, the £800m is in Google shares, and being as Google is ultimately worth nowt until somebody's prepared to stump up the hard cash then nor are it's shares. That's what I heard on t'radio, but I couldn't claim to know one way or the other.

If it's £800 million in shares they could immediately sell and get £800 million....or else they'd not be £800 million of shares they'd just be some shares

You'd struggle to sell £800million in one go - you'd need one or two individuals to agree to do so as the market couldn't handle such an off-loading of shares without the price being slashed to accomodate the "supply and demand" issue.

And another thing. How does YouTube get around all the copyright laws? :conf:

They do remove stuff that has copyright on it, it's just they don't sit there all day checking for it.

Basically, the people who own the copyright will find it, notify youtube, they will then remove it.

They've already negotiated with Sony and others to avoid any Napster type nastiness....

and the acquisition resulted in 4bn [usd] being added to Googles value as institutional investors filled up our pensions with google shares.. So not a bad deal... for Google ..

OK - who do they support ?

$1.7bn and they have 67 employees. Been operating for under 12 months, amazing.

I believe Bebo, valued at $500m+ has 14 employees. Facebook has something similarly ridiculous and that's worth $1bn.

A few years ago (or months ago in YouTube's case) these bright sparks realised that the internet was turning from receptive to creative user input and after 2 years work they won't have to work again.

i'll bet ebaumsworld and them are pissed off.... youtube is popular because you dont have to have codecs and media players and dont have to piss about getting stuff to play it just does it all thru flash ... easypeasy...

thats what i think..

you dont even need to download the vid first as it streams off their compys.. you cant 'keep' them afterwards like, but i suspect that was the point ...

Fk ebaumsworld.

They have made money off using content other people have made and sticking an "ebaumsworld.com" watermark on it.
