I've also read parts of the Torrah and the Koran. There are lots there also that don't make much sense to me in the second millennium. Mainly because all three were written so long ago in the language and meaning of the times.

You seem to want to refute Christianity on three five minute dabs at the Bible using words that are a million miles away in context to those of today.
You asked me to provide evidence to back up the claims I made that your god condoned rape, incest and ethnic cleeansing, and I did. I in no way expect to "refute Christianity" with a 5 minute google search.

But let me put some of this into perspective...you believe that when you die, you're going to go to heaven (while non-believers are cast into the pits of hell) because you believe that the bible is the word of god, right? Or atleast you believe Jesus was the son of god and he died for all our sins or something? My point is, you live your life by the word of the bible. Although, you haven't actually read the bible, therefore I'm assuming you've been indoctrinated since childhood by your parents and probably a priest or two. According to the brainwashing, your "faith" is a ticket to eternal paradise when your life on Earth comes to an end, correct? If you lived your life without "faith", no matter how good a person you were, you'd be spending the rest of time burning in the pits of hell, yes?
If you actually believed this, it would be the most overwhelmingly important thing in your entire life! There's no WAY you'd risk misinterpretation, or knowingly break commandments and commit sin! Therefore, I contend that you don't actually believe it at all. You've been brought up to say these things, yet I think you know all too well how ridiculous it is in reality. I imagine there's an internal guilt you feel, a feeling of betrayal, that makes you carry on claiming these beliefs, when internally, you have no conviction whatsoever and feel slightly embarrassed by it.
I suppose it's understandable though. Bringing children up with threats of fire and brimstone, and warning them of the wrath of satan in the pits of hell is bound to have some negative long-term effect on them.

Yeah, I'm just a brain-washed dumbo who never questions anything. Maybe I believe in Father Christmas and fairies, who knows? Ive read loads of passages from the Bible: to claim anyone has read it religiously and understands every word makes them suspect to me. I also had a Catholic education yes, been an altarboy and brought up on Church life yes. After all that I had a choice to make. I made it. I don't aspire to be a saint, I'd never make it. What you contend is between you and your maker, whoever that may be. Contend away.

As I was also brought up a Christian, attending Sunday school, church and all the rest of it, I like to think I can see both sides. In some respects I envy folks who cling to their belief, especially in times of bereavement.

It's true that I was 'conditioned' and indoctrinated from a very early age, at home, in church and in school. However as I got older I started to question these 'teachings'. They are, to say the least, contradictory. The last time this was discussed here I posited that Gandhi, not being christened, never mind a Christian, would be cast into the pit, whilst Herr Schickelgruber would be sat on a cloud somewhere near St. Peter.

The crunch came when I started studying the classics at school and I was surprised to see how much the Old Testament had pinched ideas from the ancient Greek polytheism. Then I looked into other (older) religions. The thing that struck me then was which one of the established religions was the correct one to follow. Get it right and you live your afterlife in paradise. Get it wrong and you get to hold hands with Gandhi.

So if one of them is 'right', it follows that the others must be wrong, that lead me to question if some of them must clearly be wrong, maybe they all are.

Religion has always been with homo sapiens. It was a way for the ancients to attempt to explain the world around them. Why did the crops fail? Why was there a plague of locusts? Why did my first born die? These are things that science has or are addressing. Now we understand our planet a lot more and why things like crop failure, infestation and disease happen. Now if you literally believe the tales in the Bible you also have to believe that the Earth is 4000 years old. Patent nonsense.
Here I stand foot in hand...talkin to my wall....I'm not quite right at all...am I?

I think it was Akenhaten (spelling wrong) who started Monothism (again I am shite at spelling) long before anyone else thought of it, turning his back on the Egyptian gods and worshipping Aten the Sun god, he was not very popular and most traces of his reign has been destroyed.

Interesting chap shame no more evidence about his reign. He was (I think) King Tutenkhamen father and mystery and intrigue surround them both

surely those that worshipped the sun pre-date him? They were monotheistic.
