Which Browser ???

Post by davroduk » Sat Jan 20, 2007 5:17 pm

I have always used the Netscape Browser on tinterweb but since upgrading my Java and Macromedia Flash I find that some sites cause my older version of Netscape to turn off part way through loading.
I have tried the latest version of Netscape but that turns off when loading the Homepage.
I dont have any probs when using Intenet Explorer but I do know that it is prone to security flaws so........
What would you all suggest as an alternative Browser ??
I have been advise to try Firefox or Opera.
Which would you say is best, or do you have any other suggestions ???

Answers on a postcard to the usual address please ........

firefox 2 is based on gecko like netscape was/is , its teh awexome .. dont piss about with out of date browsers , its not worth it... and uninstall the old ones first before installing firefox / opera so you get no 'conflicts' ..

opera is suposed to be ok ...

netscape browser the aol thing will be shite , [guesses] coz it'll have aol mitherware in it ..

thunderbird is the email side of firefox if you need a email client..

Java is shite and never works proper , upgrading it probably ballzd summert, the browser should do the java bits anyroad, firefox does (or seems to) . and it does it better than java's own stand alone shiteware "plug in" *coughs*70megs*coughs* ...

thats just coz you never turned off IE7's 'cleartype' blurrovision setting and never turned off IE7's 'phishing' filter , neither .. thats all those probs were...

anyway firefox is his best bet... and its phishing filter is quicker .. and it has no blurro setting ..

Ok I am now viewing and posting this with Firefox.
Seems a lot faster than Netscape (but thats not difficult).
Does it block pop ups?
What other add ons would you recommend?
Only bummer is that I cant uninstall Netscape cos the uninstall file cant be found, but it doesnt seem to be conflicting or causing any other probs at the moment.
Will give it a go and see what happens.

you might need to get the macromedia flash plug in for SWF flash files to work (youtube , everywhere , etc) in the browser ... you can get it from macromedia.com or adobe.com or whoever owns it now .... if youve not done it already...

the pu blocker should be on already , the antiphishng should be on already,...

you might be able to uninstall netscape if you go directly to uninstall file rather than doing it thru the add/remove programs bit on winders.. or the install file and choosing 'remove' insteadve the other options

The Streetmap one is ok. Highlight a postcode right click and open up in Multimap, Streetmap or Googlemaps.

Dictionary tooltips as well. Double click any word on a website and the dictionary description appears.

Firefox here to, recently changed from IE, mainly cos I heard the new IE is shittier than the old one. Firefox is far better and I'm an old technophobic git so if I can use it anyone can :)

Some transatlantic translation required, Bruce? Well, don't ask me - a bomb is usually bad, but "the bomb" - :?
