Bruce was a big part of my (musical) life when growing up.TANGODANCER wrote:Sir Richard Bishop and various favourites, Dancing in the dark (Springstein), Guitar Tango, Berlin and other stuff. Tend to have all sorts on disc and just play em at random. Right this minute: Dean Martin "Mambo Italiano". Good mood is restored.

Agreed. Saw his concert with the Session Band not long ago on TV. Cracking stuff.thegaiser wrote:Bruce was a big part of my (musical) life when growing up.TANGODANCER wrote:Sir Richard Bishop and various favourites, Dancing in the dark (Springstein), Guitar Tango, Berlin and other stuff. Aye, I knew that, shall seek out a song online - recommend me one

You really need to listen to the whole album, but if you want a quick cross-section then I'd say download Fly Trapped In A Jar.Batman wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:You'd be better off listening to the same album as me. May the bridges I burn light your way
Funeral is a classic, not heard their new album but they have a tough job of doing better than that.Bruce Rioja wrote:Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.
I just can't turn this album off. Definitely one of the best three albums that I've bought in the last two years, along with Arcade Fire's Funeral and Death Cab For Cutie's Plans.
Currently listening to many a new single:
Interpol - Heinrich Manouever...poppier than their old stuff, but still quite good.
Dizzee Rascal - Sirens...probably the song that'll break him into the mainstream, reminds me alot of Jay-Z
White Stripes - Icky Thump...same thing you expect from JW which is the unexpected - crunching guitar and im sure there is a bagpipe or two in there.
Justice - D.A.N.C.E...takes the crown off of Peter Bjorn and John's 'Young Folks' for track of the summer.
Bjork - Earth Intruders...not heard much of her stuff, though this sounds quite tribal and electronic and...well, good.
RATM - Killing in The Name of (Mr Oizo remix) - actually works really well up until near the end, where the mixing seems out of sync and poor.
"Young people, nowadays, imagine money is everything."
"Yes, and when they grow older they know it."

Not pretending to know much about modern groups or music Bruce, but why, with such a wealth of talent about do we get freakish crap like Skootch (or whatever)as our Eurovision entry? Surely some of these groups can come up with something less embarrasing than that?Bruce Rioja wrote:You really need to listen to the whole album, but if you want a quick cross-section then I'd say download Fly Trapped In A Jar.Batman wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:You'd be better off listening to the same album as me. Bit ironic: Forty countries enter a song contest and it's not taken seriously by a mainly gay/female audience in a supposed world-music leading country. Mind you, with the old-pals act voting I suppose there's not much point. "And Norway give twelve points to.....Sweden!"communistworkethic wrote:because Eurovision is not taken seriously, nor should it IMO while it's politcal and it's almost block voted by a gay/female audience in the UK.
