People moan about public transport not being good enough. Then when someone comes up with an answer it gets turned down.

Perhaps it's time to start basing the right to vote on an IQ test. Hope you enjoy the endless traffic jams!

For me public transport is fine in/around manchester, I used to use it most days.

Apparently this one covered 80 square miles, whereas the london c-charge covered eight square miles. I'd imagine more people would've voted YES if it was just for the inner ring, and not all that encompassed it.

Not driving these days I have no axe to grind. I can however, see that businesses running vehicles and blokes with families might find an extra £25 per week per vehicle an item of lay-out they don't need. Just a view.

I find the Salford one interesting, given that most of the population live within the outer ring and a decent proportion within the inner ring anyhow

It was the wrong solution to come up with. I think thats why people said no. At a time of economic struggle and already very expensive car tax and MOTs, the congestion charge would never win.

Its the principle of another tax thats all, and the fiver a day was never cast in stone it soon could have become £10 or even £15
