Sam Allardyce named Blackburn Manager
Moderator: Zulus Thousand of em
Meh hope we finish above the Dingles obviously, but i can't find it in me to wish anything other than good luck to Allardyce, he was truly great for us, very unlucky at Newcastle, and has started well at the Dingles.
On another note, the media go on about the number of Ferguson and Clough protegees still in football, but i think proof of how good an influence Allardyce was is shown in the fact Browny, Sbragia, McDonald and even the little gimp are all involved with Prem clubs.

Browny i suppose you could have, McDonald has only ever worked in the Premierleague under Allardyce himself, and the other two came from Premierleague clubs to us.
It's hardly a fecking football dynasty.

YOU CLIMB OBSTACLES LIKE OLD PEOPLE FXCK!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, and Ferguson and Clough were the only people involved in the development of their 'protegees' were they? Ince and Hughes gained no benefit from their spells abroad at a time (particularly in Hughes' case) when English football clubs were miles behind their European counterparts in terms of background work. Jesus, I'm not saying Allardyce is the allmighty, but that he was a. very good at picking backroom staff, and b. very good at influencing them.Tombwfc wrote:Are you Sam Allardyce?Prufrock wrote:Meh hope we finish above the Dingles obviously, but i can't find it in me to wish anything other than good luck to Allardyce, he was truly great for us, very unlucky at Newcastle, and has started well at the Dingles.

Course he did. Do you honestly think he deliberately went out of his way to dismantle everything he had acheived out of spite? He had a new job to do and understandably did all he could do it as best he could. You can tell he still feels afection for the club when he accidentally talks about 'we' in that interview.Soldier_Of_The_White_Army wrote:He certainly didn't fxcking wish us any!!Prufrock wrote:Meh hope we finish above the Dingles obviously, but i can't find it in me to wish anything other than good luck to Allardyce, he was truly great for us, very unlucky at Newcastle, and has started well at the Dingles.

Anyone who thinks Allardyce wishes anything other than good towards club is one bitter individual. Yeah he isn't perfect, and the manner of his leaving left a bad taste in his mouth, but that shouldnt erase our feelings for a man who gave us the best years in this clubs history.

I am always baffled at the anti big Sam sentiment and especially comments regarding his big mouth. Living in thailand, during the early days of Big Sam we did not get nearly the amount of TV coverage that we get now. I was proud every time Big Sam was interviewed on tv. He helped make the Bolton Wanderers. Back then I only got to see the team play maybe 3 times a season, but as far as interviews went he was up there with Ferguson, & Wenger. Let's face it all the managers get interviewed, but Big Sam's actually got aired. Why? Because it was more interesting than the crap the other managers spouted out each week. The exposure he gave Bolton quite likely helped in bringing some players to the team.
I feel Bolton still owes Big Sam a huge thanks. I am writing this post on a forum that most likely would never even have existed if it wasn't for Big Sam, because without him the chances are we would still be floundering in the lower divisions.
That being said, I still hope his success always remains at least one place below ourselves.

When he quit to take a break from football & spend time with his family only to turn up in Newcastle two weeks later having walked away from the remainder of the ten year contract he was under. He promptly cherry picked the best of the back-room staff, taking Abdoulaye Faye and left us with Gerald Cid (his swan song), walked away scot free from the bung allegations/panorama/England manager charade - in which we'd all stood behind him 100%.
All this was done for the good of Bolton Wanderers Football Club. His spiritual home.
Cheers Sam. Best of luck at Blackburn, hope you get them back in Europe and Merry Christmas.
Businesswoman of the year.
Whoa whoa, I never said he DID anything to HELP BWFC after he left, but why should he? He had a job to do, he took the measures he felt he needed to do to be successful at Newcastle. How many of our other heroes did? Rioch never did anything to actively help us once he'd left, he is still rightly revered. Criticism of the way Allardyce left Bolton is valid and just, but to suggest he deliberately set about destroying Bolton is just bitter. He took those staff, and those players, because he felt they were the best at their jobs, and would help him do his new job. That is to be expected.CrazyHorse wrote:Spot on - I'm glad you've made me finally understand.Prufrock wrote:Course he did. His departure certainly left a bad taste in the mouth of every fan, but he gave us the best success we have ever had, that HAS to count for more or we might as well all go home and give up. The man is a hero at this club, and history will remember him as such.

I do not know enough about how backroom staff follow managers from team to team in football. In N.A. sports though that is certainly the case. The easiest sport to see this is in American football. People like working with people they are familiar with. It has nothing to do with trying to destroy what you have created. Big Sam had, at the time a fairly unique backroom at Bolton. Went he signed up with a new club he wanted to replicate that. Little Sam wanted to stamp his own identity on the team. As a result there are many uncomfortable employees left behind that would be more than willing to move on. I don't think there is anything vindictive on anybody's part.
I don't like how he left the club but based upon the final few months of his time here, I agree it was time for him to move on. The only mistake was signing LSL. The reasons behind signing him I agreed with, but he was not the right person.

There may also be a foot note, that when the FA spurned him he almost ruined the club he built by spitting out his dummy!!!!Prufrock wrote:Whoa whoa, I never said he DID anything to HELP BWFC after he left, but why should he? He'd lost the plot as far as we were concerned and we nearly paid the price of his ego!
He hardly left us on a high note did he? Still he has his cross to bare now, his "long ball tactics" it will take mega success with the dingles before he sheds that, something I doubt he ever will.
to sum up;
thanks for the memories and what you did for us Sam,
but now your nothing but a six fingered Dingle and one who carries his hump upfront!! down to the pits of hell with yer!!!!
