This is f**king ridiculous, a few more mods and it wouldn't have happened.

One of the worst invasions I saw was where they hacked the site and put up a certain porn variant...pretty f**king low that one.YSB wrote:Take it as a joke ffs, like your fellow fan FD has done.
Trust me, I've witnessed worse "forum invasions" where the whole board was hacked into and pratically deleted.
You know we're just a bunch of cúnts.

maybe we need to review registration measures ie if we have to confirm following initial application so when we get about 8 people all registering after we've been done over by some f*ckwits we can hold off allowing them on the board for a while....therefore any immediate wum attempts thwarted....with interest hopefully waning by the time applications are accepted?
It seems the top notch hilarious comedy evident in 'invading' an internet forum has gone over my head. I apologise.YSB wrote:Take it as a joke ffs, like your fellow fan FD has done.

Re: More mods needed
Might have escaped your notice that some of us have been around over most of the Christmas period. I spent three and a half hours clearing the site up with help from others yesterday and finished at midnight. Not just a case of banning idiots, you then have to find their ip and e-mail addresses and ban those too. Then you start on crxp-shifting of the posts. Much harder job than fault-finding FD.FD wrote:This is f**king ridiculous, a few more mods and it wouldn't have happened.
Could anyone have foreseen so many thirteen-year-old half-wits loose with a pc or laptop thinking their shxt-stirring was clever stuff all at the same time? Even for Wigan that must be a record.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Probably coordinated to be fair td. Unfortunate though it was.
anywho in terms of mods...it might be getting someone from AUS/USA/other different time zone on board, as they'll blatantly be on at different times than most of us folk. At least they'll be one eye on the site at any given time in theory. Failing that, look at the stats for the most prominent users in terms of time as well as posts, decide whether they're suitable then employ.

I'm aware of the tasks you had to undertake, having run a rather site/forum with a lot more traffic than this one myself in the past (I'm not gloating by the way, just making sure you understand that I understand your position), which is why I feel more mods are needed. As harsh as this sounds, don't take it so because I appreciate the site and the jobs people do but people don't have to be mods. I had enough people step down when the spamming got horrendous, personal and threatening because they didn't want to do it, people do it for free and if they don't want to, they don't have to. As I said, please don't take offence, that's just the way things are.TANGODANCER wrote:Not just a case of banning idiots, you then have to find their ip and e-mail addresses and ban those too. The point I was making isn't that the mods you use are crap, but that if you had more of them there was a higher chance they'd have been on at the time and could have assisted or at least started things in motion. As Verbal points out, it was a calculated attack, not a spur of the moment deal and the mods employed weren't equipped to handle it through one reason or another.
AGAIN I feel I should say that I'm not trying to cause offence, just pointing out with a few more mods, it could have been avoided altogether or at least slowed down so that people who actually value the site could have continued to post things.
Anyway, it's your site, you do as you please, I'm just another user who is pointing out something I feel would improve it, lord knows there's enough good people on here who could become moderators. As for the dig at the end of your post, don't feel that was neccessary, and rather unlike you.

Strangely enough, some people have better things to do on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year than sit at a PC in anticipation of an attack of the knob ends from Wigan.
"This is f**king ridiculous, a few more mods and it wouldn't have happened." doesn't come across to me as constructive feedback (and I have no vested interests, not being a mod) it just sounds like a bellyache.
As an inconvenience, FD, I'm sure you'll get over it, eventually, maybe with a little counselling - who knows, where there's a blame there might be a claim...

...and strangely enough, some don't. We're all football fans and there's always a lot of traffic during and after a game, whatever time of year it might be, we all know this.Worthy4England wrote:Strangely enough, some people have better things to do on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year than sit at a PC in anticipation of an attack of the knob ends from Wigan.
I guess I was pissed off at something that could have been avoidable, at least in my opinion."This is f**king ridiculous, a few more mods and it wouldn't have happened." doesn't come across to me as constructive feedback (and I have no vested interests, not being a mod) it just sounds like a bellyache.
As I said, I was only voicing an opinion, I'll be more careful next time.
As you point out, the world will continue to turn. I've said my piece and now I think I'll move on.As an inconvenience, FD, I'm sure you'll get over it, eventually, maybe with a little counselling - who knows, where there's a blame there might be a claim...

Easiest remedy would be a 24 hour cooling off period for any new poster when they join. I'm sure this would deter about 99% of the cockends whose attention span and vitriol couldn't wait that long.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Think you're right LK - although I would point out that 24 hours later they will still be cockends...I suspect in this case, not accepting enrollment before 20:00 hours would have probably solved it as they would have all been sent to bed by then.Lord Kangana wrote:Easiest remedy would be a 24 hour cooling off period for any new poster when they join. I'm going to suggest to admin that we don't accept any new members on match day. They won't be so keen to join a couple of days later when it will all be over. Don't take my remarks to heart FD. I too was just a bit pxxxed off yesterday but I'm over it. This has been a very rare occasion as there are usually at least two or three of us around.
