I understand the temptation - so long as it's not the BNP.Bruce Rioja wrote:Is exactly what I'm thinking just now. Also, Prufrock, how come nationalism automatically equals racism in your book?InsaneApache wrote:

especially here - if the BNP get 9% of the north west vote their leader, neo-Nazi Nick Griffin will get a seat in the euro parliament...
Just important to vote on the day (for anyone else) - the more that vote the more difficult for the BNP to hit its target...
i'm tempted by the greens myself, though suspect that some atavistic impulse will lead me, with a mighty sigh, to vote labour when it actually comes to it... the only time i haven't was when I voted socialist labour, in the hope that Arthur Scargill could make as great a job of his party as he did for the NUM...

Was vaguely my point in listening rather than pooh-poohing offhand. To reinforce Bruce's point, England is as multinational as it gets in terms of integration racewise. Loads of one-time immigrants came here ad settled, had families who are now nationalised English. Why should we even mention racism because some guy points out there are two million illegal immigrants over here? In what way are we any different than any other country in wanting some organised control over that? And what exactly is wrong with national pride? Something we seem to have lost a little of lately.InsaneApache wrote:Why's leaving the EU mental? That's not what we signed up for. The first time my (elder)brother voted was on the EEC referendum. No mention in that about having our laws set by Bruxelles. Think that our MPs are troughing on the gravy train? Wait until we manage to wrangle the MEP expenses! (Which we won't)
Seriously guys, it is time that we started to look at the policies of the small parties. After all, we've seen what the main ones do with our money.
Our present leaders are somwhat wanting even after years of practise. Let's not be brainwashed into thinking only two horses can ever enter the race. Time to have a look at the rest of the runners in a bit more depth maybe?

If a party were to be blamed for one of its members indiscretions Paliament would be permanently empty......hey, wait.....Little Green Man wrote:Yep - the small parties wouldn't trouser OUR money - nooooooooo, never in a month of Sundays...InsaneApache wrote: Seriously guys, it is time that we started to look at the policies of the small parties. I think it's pretty good that politicians are trying to get closer to "the man in the street". We've been calling 'em all a bag of c**ts for weeks...

Surely it's only wrong if you make the association between Nationalist and Racist?superjohnmcginlay wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Nationalism just makes me want to vomit repeatedly.Bruce Rioja wrote:Is exactly what I'm thinking just now. Nationalist in its truest form is the right to self determination...I'm lost as to why this might be a bad idea?

I'd be interested in hearing your take on this view of nationalism BWFCI ( assuming that it belongs to a few people other than just BNP memembers) and why it makes you want to vomit, really, I would. ?BWFC_Insane wrote:Nationalism just makes me want to vomit repeatedly.Bruce Rioja wrote:Is exactly what I'm thinking just now. If it were only the world cup we were worrying about, I'd be on your side Worthy. But most of the national barriers we have throughout the world were formed either by some tyrannical conquerer, or a scheming committee of self interest. How the hell you can feel a part of that is something I've never got my head round.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
