Why Vidic? Ferdinand is better.seanworth wrote:United have announced that Tevez WILL be leaving the club. Final decision or another ploy to get him to accept a final offer? While there quotes from his advisers I could find no quotes from Tevez himself. The favourites are now Man City but reported interest from Chelsea and Liverpool. If true all we need is for Vidic to leave and the PL could be quite interesting next season.

Biggest problem Tevez faces is, that in the type of top-end team he wants to play for, squad strength means that the starting elelven will change constantly and he has to accept some bench time (Anelka a case in point). He either can't accept that, or his wage demands are based on pure greed (caused no doubt by the City spending bonanza). With Ronaldo leaving United the former should change in his favour and, since United have just offered him a five-year deal, one has to think that the latter applies. That and the spats with Ferguson seem to be the problem.

Because there are actually rumours that Vidic might be off to Spain (I think). Vidic also came out early last season and said he didn't like living in England that much. I think that was what he said anyway.Prufrock wrote:Why Vidic? Ferdinand is better.seanworth wrote:United have announced that Tevez WILL be leaving the club. Ah fair enough. Though there aren't many who havent been linked with a move to Spain, or Italy as well in the case of Vidic. I doubt he'll leave though, and he has gone on record since that interview saying he likes it here now. Don't think ol' red nose will let Stam mkII go as easily as he did first time round.seanworth wrote:Because there are actually rumours that Vidic might be off to Spain (I think). Was right all along
Yes yes a thousand times yes. Same way when Chelsea were at their peak Carvalho was the better defender than Terry. You don't see Carvalho or Ferdinand chucking themselves into last ditch tackles, because they rarely need to. Against top quality Vidic gets shown up. Rinsed by Torres, and massively at faut for the opening goal against Barca. He's rated highly because he'll come up with a booming header or crunching tackle, which fans love, but Ferdinand is a much better all round defender. Don't get me wrong, Vidic is a top player, and would comfortably walk into most teams in the world, but Ferdinand is better.Bruno wrote:Prufrock wrote:Why Vidic? Ferdinand is a better all round footballer, but Vidic is a better defender. Vidic can break up play better than Ferdinand, who is still very adept at forgetting what way his knees bend. Ferdinand's better on the ball, even if he tends to go all Gerrard 70-yarder when starved of all obvious options. As Barca showed again that night when marking Ronaldo, Park and Rooney tight, stopping Giggs turning and driving and stopping Carrick working.Prufrock wrote:Yes yes a thousand times yes. And, whilst Vidic did get rinsed by Torres this season, I'd say anyone would have that day.

Given the choice I'd take Vidic every time. Ferdinand appears good because of the quality in the rest of the side around him. This has probably been his best season because, up to that he passed square, back to his goalie or a dodgy hurried pass to the likes of Scoles (and in the past Beckham) who could help him out every time an opposition player charged at him. His creativity ratio was nil. Vidic has made him look better than he actually is. Just my opinion.Prufrock wrote:Bruno wrote: Don't get me wrong, Vidic is a top player, and would comfortably walk into most teams in the world, but Ferdinand is better.

I wish the media would quit calling Joorabchian Tevez's "advisor" or "agent" and just call him what he is: Tevez's "owner."TANGODANCER wrote:Tevez's agent tells the "truth"![]()

Got's to disagree on Ferdinand and Vidic. Vidic dives in too much and too early for me, and gets too tight to too good players. And as for anyone getting rinsed by Torres that day, I'm sure too many defenders would have let that equaliser happen. I can't remember the last time I saw Ferdinand make a mistake. Of the too I'd have duck boy any day. Fantastic partnership though, probably the best in world football, they do complimenmt each other well.
As dor Tevez, I do wonder how much say he actually gets in where he is going. At least if he stays in England he'll be free this time.

Exactly, you've gotta go two years back to find anything. THe first one is half keeper half him, and the second one is pathetic. That's hardly a sign of a bad defender, kicking the ball into the crowd in frustration!H. Pedersen wrote:Perhaps this?Prufrock wrote:I can't remember the last time I saw Ferdinand make a mistake.

Whereas for Vidic I can give you two which are far worse in the last three months of the season.

But as an all round player Ferdinand is probably better.
Think the stats show that Man Utd have a much worse record when Vidic is missing compared to when Ferdinand is out.
However, not sure what you mean about "creativity" TD, Ferdinand is a centre half and he is FAR better on the ball than most centre halves, and certainly far more technically skilled than Vidic!

I did make the point ealier that he improved last season on past performances.I also made he point that he could never wait to get rid of the ball quick enough when challenged.....anywhere would do, and the number of times he passed it back to his goalkeeper was a joke, many times putting the keeper under unnecessary pressure both in a United shirt and an England one. A lot of those were from the right back position...I can't be th only one who remembers that, surely?BWFC_Insane wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Vidic is probably a better out and out defender than Ferdinand.Prufrock wrote:Given the choice I'd take Vidic every time.
