I know, but there's hardly a great number of options. Ramps wasn't good enough first time round, so I don't know why he'd be any better now. Maybe they could ask Trescothick one last time, but other than that I'd stick mainly with what we have. Ian Bell has proven himself to be a good Test player, and given the lack of better options, we might aswell back him to work it out on the day.BWFC_Insane wrote:Problem with that line-up is Bell is in it. Flintoff

....... would be my choice I think.

I agree Tom. Its just that Bell doesn't inspire confidence.Tombwfc wrote:I know, but there's hardly a great number of options. But Tresco isn't an option. The man can't handle pressure. This test is hardly good for that kind of character!

Failing that, the taxi draiver I had yesterday was full of ideas about what next - not only for the ashes, but mp's allowances and ending the stupidities involved in licensing taxis in Bolton.TANGODANCER wrote:Get Boycott in there. He's always telling them what they're doing wrong. A bit of stone-walling is what we need.
This man knew almost everything - the only thing he didn't know was where my street was.
Keedy in the Lions squad is a very odd and interesting one. He's not one for the future, and has had a great season. Maybe they're putting him in against the Aussies with a view to a game at the Oval?FD wrote:I'd say we'll go with 2 spinners this test, Panesar and Swann I reckon.
As for the batting, it should be Strauss, Cook, Key, Trott, Collingwood - with the rest depending on Flintoff. That middle order should be solid if not spectacular, which is what we need.

What is it with you Englanders?
You have won one, lost one, escaped from a loss and could well have won another. To me that means the teams are level-pegging.
Where is the British Bulldog spirit?
No, I'm not talking about the fickle Englander press, I'm talking about those of you who bother to post on this thread. There are times when I believe that you lot believe that Megson's the coach, manager and sole selector. For crying out loud, get a grip.
As usual the Australander equivalent of Fleet Street has already decided that The Ashes will be retained and are, collectively, not shy to trumpet such. What a load of codswallop.
My guess is that there will be 12 Englanders and support staff at The Oval dedicated to winning back The Ashes. Likewise there will be a group of Australanders dedicated to the aim of retaining them.
I hope that the selectors get it right and that the final game of the series turns out to be a true contest.

Maybe history, quality and current form make that an easier decision to come toDujon wrote:What is it with you Englanders?

of course you're right Dujon - we tend to think that the odd win is a fluke and the more usual collapse and crushing defeat is the norm (with some justification!)Dujon wrote:What is it with you Englanders?

you're a true sports-gent. I don't want it to be a contest at all - I'd like England to win it within 3 days!

Harmison is clearly disruptive
He intimidates Anderson
Probably more Andersons fault that Harmisons, but thats by the by
Anderson is the 'captain' of the bowlers and he loses all confidence when the big sulk is in the mix
As fert batting, Bell and Bopara....its not exactly daunting, is it
Crazy I know, but I'd go back to Ramprakash - at least he should be able to play without fear

Why, is Botham one of the top English batsman in the county game, comfortable at The Oval and not going to go into the game thinking if he fails hes finished, thus under massive pressure?Bruno wrote:Ramprakash, deary me.
Maybe we could see if Botham fancies getting his pads on too
Look, its clear you know fkall about football, so don't embarrass yourself further
