we always have a big lavish spring ball at some posh hotel, with the wags and tuxedo's etc, rather than a Christmas gathering - that was cancelled this year n'all, and probably next year too.
not that im bothered, never went to one anyway free bar or not - i hate all that backslapping sycophantic bullshit!!!

I'm looking forward to mine. we had a 10th birthday bash a couple of weeks ago, and it was awesome. That had key staff and suppliers, a vodka fountain and cracking music. Gorton Monastery - worth a look up, amazing venue.
So hopefully with the spirit of that still in the veins (the feeling, not the vodka, though there's some of that swimming around still I swear) I'm hoping next weeks Xmas do will be a good un. £5er but we get 5 drinks, disco, venue (hotel of course - favours o'clock) and buffet.

The best ones are the Xmas Partys held at hotels where smallish businesses have a table each. This means that there are usually a dozen or so different companies there, and gives you an opportunity to chase other skirt outside of your own company without leaving the party. And with it being in a hotel you have the added bonus of a room to take said ladies back to. Or be sick in.
We are going to one such do this year in Leyland, however I will be treating the party like a good manager should and remain sober enough to break up the inevitable fights between wagon drivers that usually break out.

Going to Cov Garden Grill next week with people I work with, about 25, for some lunch across nearly 3 hours and don't envisage going back to the office after that really. My boss is picking up the tab for us as the company is not, though I'll charge my train to them.
Same week I'm going out with the other young'uns from the Manchester office but will go on long into the night I suspect, paying for that one myself.

I think i was just venting yesterday...there is not a chance on earth that i'd miss the Free Bar!
We had a company e-mail today explaining about how imperitive excellent behaviour is on Friday, and i think the following quote is one of the most priceless of all time:
"-There is of course a free bar. Please note that this should be enjoyed responsibly by all employees. Anyone found to be overly intoxicated will be asked to leave immediately."
That's all fine, but try stopping a scroat from Salford who works in the post room, from drinking his monthly wage in vodka and then asking him to leave! Not going to happen without an all mighty tear up!
Anyway, off to get a Mocha with a shot of Vanilla...........have a nice afternoon!

I've banned Christmas parties at my business (I'm the boss) for the foreseeable future. The reason is the same as that many have posted here; I normally pay for the grog and food and attend to the cleaning and such after the event, but the place always finishes smelling of alcohol, stale cigarette smoke and dried sweat. It's awful. Whilst I love those who work here I can't manage to fork out the dosh involved for an 'outside' venue.
It's bloody hard running a one-man business, it really is. Mind you, I haven't had any complaints.
