Davo in an England Shirt

Shit performance by England. Gareth Barry was utter, utter wank. Glenn was turd and let down by some quite ordinary officiating - not least giving Kev a yellow for jumping
That was my concern; but for all his failings, Fabio isn't stupid. We livened up when Kev came on, he made two good chances for Rooney and Barry and if Rooney wasn't such a greedy B*st*rd, he could have put SKD through on goal at one point. Personaly, I think Rooney looked much better after Crouch was replaced by SKD and was always looking to run off Davies for the touch on. Fabio has always liked Heskey in the position to do exactly that, and I have a sneaky suspicion we could see a bit more of our Kev in an England shirt. I'm just glad FC isn't fazed by the Shite written in the red tops. Fcku off Samuel! sorry last bit should have been in the angry thread....

Considering Davies prowess in the air you would have thought they'd have tried to get some decent crosses in to the box. That it took the "stump-who-embodies-everything-that-is-wrong-with-English-football" to demonstrate how this should be done after 70 minutes just shows how full of shit and up their own collective arses the England fraternity are. We had more attacking intent when he came on. If our uselsess midfield had been even a fraction less ponderous (yes, its very nice passing the ball, but not when you're not very good at it) they may have used him to better effect. Case closed.Prufrock wrote:F*ck it, I'm proud. Stood up when he came on, didn't sit down till the end. Smile across my face, but despite that, a lingering fear he'd do a Ricketts and show himself up. Didn't happen. England's best two chances of the match came through him, in between a decent cross cleared, and a quality reverse ball that saw, yet again England's best player, Adam Johnson draw a foul.
Booking, well, ten years ago when football was a contact sport it's play on, nowadays it's a foul, but a booking and five minutes of some beardy twunt rubbing his throat. Fook off. Money on Martin Samuel saying he summed up why we couldn't beat lowly (so very well organised) Montenegro, whilst claiming Ashley 'Cheating bastard' Young should have had a pen for pre-empting a foul by doing a Tom Daley?
As for the rest of the game. Glen Johnson is the next Phil Neville/ Ashley Cole/ Emile Heskey/ Frank Lampard, we have to pick on one player. He's a good player, easily England's best at RB. Tonight he was utterly woeful. Barry is good sideways or backwards, Gerrard stuck deep with ten to play through. You know who tonight's fault is? Fecking Arsenal/Spurs fans. No matter how much tippy tappy nice stuff you play, sometimes, you come up against a well drilled, at worst competent side, like they were tonight, and you need a different option. First half our best chances came on the right to left diagonal to Crouch, and it isn't his strong point. When Davo came on all our joy came from that too. Rooney? So bad tonight, really didn't help Kev. Davies good movement left to right, takes the big man out, offers short, it goes wide, he hits the back stick, sp what does Rooneydo, Rooney, who spent the entire first half in our half, does he come near post and short, bring a defender out to make space and give the wide man an option? No, he stands right next to Davo. Nice one.
Overall, just so happy to see him in an England shirt. Dream situation was an Ashley Young corner where he tweaked a hammy as Crouch and Lescoot clattered each other. "A triple substitution for England, coming on, Jack Wilshere, Gary Cahill, and Souuuuuupa Kevin Davies.
Final thought....number 18? Wrong.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I was quietly sitting in a bar late in the evening on my day off watching the crap on display until Kevin Davies came on at which point I let a very loud "Yesssss, about f#$king time". 3 people immediately responded with "You're not a Bolton fan by any chance". All of them felt he deserved the selection as well, or maybe they were just being polite.
Think we were better when he came on the pitch but that was not very difficult. Don't think people have much to bitch about SKD as they will be more pre-occupied with G Johnson and Barry's performances.
Anyway 2 weeks ago I never thought SKD would ever put on an England shirt, and until 2 days ago didn't think he had much of a shot to get on the pitch. I don't care about tonight's result, I am just glad SKD got the chance to don the England jersey.

I've only read the headline, and it made me laugh (no point in reading the article):

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but England were bloody hopeless when playing their ponderous version of continental posession football. We upped the tempo when Kev came on, and were far closer to scoring.

didn't rooney also get booked and fail to sccore? That the biggest cheer came for 33-year-old Kevin Davies, the Bolton Wanderers striker more known for combative passion than prolific goalscoring, shows how tense the game had become by the time he got on after 67 minutes. Had Darren Bent stayed fit, Davies would not have made the bench. Had Jermain Defoe been available he would not have made the squad. Yet here he was, England’s potential saviour. The man whose bookings have outweighed his goals in six of the last eight seasons did not disappoint in his 26 minutes of action. He got booked and failed to score.

I watched the game in a pub in deepest Goonerland. The first half was viewed peacefully enough, although the half time reactions were "this is awful". It wasn't the best, but I respect Montenegro for being very well organised and trying to vary the styles of passing as the half went on.
The second half begun. Adam Johnson curls a free kick wide. Howls of "what the f**k was that?" (didn't think it was THAT bad). Then they showed Kev warming up. One very loud shout of "feck off!" - then he came on. The wailing was almost unbearable. Another "feck off!" was proceeded by another, then another. Then one wag proclaims "I might as well get my boots on", and another announcing "It's Wrestling Time!" One person said "this is the death of English football. He should be playing for Leeds. The first thing he'll do is two foot someone in the neck".
And the first thing he did was....a first time reverse pass that got Adam Johnson into a decent crossing position. "How did that bounce off his foot like that?"
Then he created a chance for Rooney - "that was a foul"
Then Davies got booked. The loudest cheer of the night. From fans of the team HE'S PLAYING FOR! "Told you so". "Typical fecking Davies - should have gone for that"
Then the foul that was given because Davies had a soft shot on target a yard from the 'keeper. "why's he going in like that - I bet he's got his initials carved on his studs!"
The final few minutes descended into "look at this - we're pandering to davies by playing long balls" (1) We were playing long balls after about 25 minutes. (2) None of the long balls actually found Davies.
The final whistle went. The performance was "a disgrace" and Davies "should never be allowed near an England shirt again, unless he's working in Sports Soccer". "We didn't win because the strikers were awful - particularly Davies"
The landlord - a Liverpool fan - came up to me and said that Davies did alright, offered more than Crouch did, and he was surprised at how deft the touch was that played Johnson in.
I was proud. Proud that he got on. Proud that I'm nowhere near as ignorant or prejudiced as the average Englishman.

We were leading in both games inside the first ten minutes, and were never anywhere near in danger at any moment in either of those games.Phil McNulty wrote:And after England's tentative strides forward in victory against Bulgaria and Switzerland in their Euro 2012 qualifiers
Last night was a disappointing display against a well organised side. Should we win our game in hand, we'll be top of the group at the half way stage. It's nowhere near a crisis.

I refuse to watch England (basically cos of the other "England" idiot fans) but did last night and what a shambles and a lot of the comments about SKD sum up why I don't watch them...in 10 minutes he did more than Rooney did in the whole match and made Englands only real chances, comments about him by other fans show how thick they really are.
Can someone pls tell me what the hell Gareth Barry does?
Here's to Wales stuffing them soon (unless SKD is playing).

Similar sentiments to those that led Gareth Barry to being perceived as England's South Africa saviour, only for him to flop dramatically. All in all a fine night for Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and Bobby Zamora, England's absent strikers
I'm sorry, but Montenegro were of enough physical nature, and England were blunt enough that was not dissimilar to said fixture.Davies, who replaced Crouch on 69 minutes in this 0-0 draw, mistook his international debut for Bolton versus Blackburn
You know what, the comments sting, and it's annoying and it shows just how blinkered the meeja are to their beloved southern teams. But it's what you get when you take up a spot in the national limelight - you become open to these things. If the press weren't so involved with trying to undermine and dislodge Capello then maybe they might bemoan the yellow card rather than patting themselves on the back for predicting it. They might reflect how many more chances were created in that last 20 mins compared with the previous 70. The lad's our hero but to them he's the latest stick to beat the England manager with.
