Wasn't too long ago, all consoles were viewed in the same manner.BWFC_Insane wrote:Playstations are for chavs and the underclass of society.East Lower wrote:Just get a Playstation.
XBOX, seems to have managed to pull that around some, but still not a serious machine, compared to my trusty PC.

PS3 is a pretty serious piece of kit when measured against the XBOX.

It is, but all the "serious" PC Gamers (hasten to add not that I'm one) who wanted a console bought X boxes.Worthy4England wrote:Wasn't too long ago, all consoles were viewed in the same manner.BWFC_Insane wrote:Playstations are for chavs and the underclass of society.East Lower wrote:Just get a Playstation.

Playstation was bought by the GTA loving masses. Take the Blu ray out of the PS3 and I'm not sure there is anything to choose, PS3 has more "grunt" but developers haven't really been able to utilise that on the whole, I've read because its far harder to work with than Microsofts effort.
I'm not looking to start a console war, was just a tongue in cheek comment, they're both great machines when you consider what was before them!

I like the idea of the constantly-evolving platform, with updates and revisions to software being available whenever you want them. The Blu ray, the memory stick compatibility etc are all little things that make it a more enjoyable machine to use, not to mention that once you switch it on it doesn't sound like a jumbo jet taking off

My Xbox is very quiet although my "first" that broke was incredibly noisy.East Lower wrote:I like the idea of the constantly-evolving platform, with updates and revisions to software being available whenever you want them. Don't like the PS3 controller, find it uncomfortable.

I've only ever had the first one, and I've had to send it back three times to be fixed - can't fault their repair and return service, but such a fundamental design flaw isn't impressive.
Still enjoy using it for some multiplayer games, but am a fully-fledged PS3-ite now.

My first lasted a year then went.East Lower wrote:I've only ever had the first one, and I've had to send it back three times to be fixed - can't fault their repair and return service, but such a fundamental design flaw isn't impressive.

My second is just over a year old and runs much cooler and quieter and so far (touch wood) is problem free.
I think the issues of failing consoles has more or less been fixed but you are right it was a massive problem early days. I overlooked it though when the price for the basic model dropped to around £100 in some shops and I could buy a brand new one with the new chipsets that seem to have reduced the failure rate. I'd have bought a PS3 probably if I didn't think it was overpriced!

I've flirted with the idea of selling my 360 for years now, but I still go back to Halo online and so will probably keep it for that reason alone.

As evidenced by the number of times my 360 has made the trip to the German repair centre?BWFC_Insane wrote:My first lasted a year then went.East Lower wrote:I've only ever had the first one, and I've had to send it back three times to be fixed - can't fault their repair and return service, but such a fundamental design flaw isn't impressive.

Depends how old it is and what they're giving you back. I think newer models are "fixed" as in they're back to usual failure rates for appliances of this type. The older ones are still problematic as are the "re-furbs" they are sending you.Worthy4England wrote:As evidenced by the number of times my 360 has made the trip to the German repair centre?BWFC_Insane wrote:My first lasted a year then went.East Lower wrote:I've only ever had the first one, and I've had to send it back three times to be fixed - can't fault their repair and return service, but such a fundamental design flaw isn't impressive.

Either that or you're unlucky.

Halo! Super game, though I only play it on my pc and never online. Don't know why. Might give it a bash. Son has Xbox, PSP, PS2 and 3, Wii and is a spoiled little bugger. Costs a fortune in games. Why aren't kids happy with one console?East Lower wrote:I've flirted with the idea of selling my 360 for years now, but I still go back to Halo online and so will probably keep it for that reason alone.

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

Gaystation or Homobox?
Was this ever resolved? I guess there's no love for the Nintendo Puu then?

Re: The Official Xbox 360 Thread
Indeed I did.
Interesting stuff, though I didn't read back too far
What is everyone playing right now?
I'm working my way through The Sly Trilogy on PS3 for review, but also still enjoying Super Meat Boy on XBLA and still having a bit of FIFA 11 now and then!
