Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
A first for me tonight. English wine.
Chapel Down Flint Dry.
And very good it is too. They say its Chablisesque, though I would tend towards a lighter Loire. I just hope it keeps in the fridge, as I have an early and important appointment, so I can't have too much. £7 it was. Worth that price.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Another first, a bottle of the wonderfully monikered Gros Plant du Pays Natais sur Lie.
S'very nice, and very cheap. And very like the bottle above, only half the price.

First one, Waitrose (or online).
Second one, InterMarche.

Only because the local Waitrose and Intermarche shelves are completely given over to Polish lager, Bruce.
I love a good mooch round a French supermarket's wine shelves, particularly those in the far south that have a decent rose section. I'll look out for the Nantais wine next time I'm over.

Tonight had Marks and Spencers King Prawn Bhuna. Done with flat chips and garden peas on the side. Recommended, it was utterly delicious.

I love their Chicken Jalfrezi, the new one in the round tub. Doesn't freeze well though.TANGODANCER wrote:Tonight had Marks and Spencers King Prawn Bhuna. Done with flat chips and garden peas on the side. Recommended, it was utterly delicious.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
(I suspect what Tango means is summnat that my parents used to call "scallops" - chips in every sense of the word except the shape - they are cut in slices - like very very fat crisps...)

Ah right. Fair enough. They're nice. I'd not call em chips though, but I see why they are.

Why not, peas go with anything? Actually the wife was having something else (not a curry fan) with peas. There were some left, she asked if I wanted them, I did.Lofthouse Lower wrote:and why would you put garden peas with a curry?

Fair enough - I don't think I've ever had peas with anything other than chippy or Sunday dinner. Or a risotto if I've been to Costco

Wasn't TD basically having a posh version of (from chippy) chips curry sauce and peas?Lofthouse Lower wrote:Fair enough - I don't think I've ever had peas with anything other than chippy or Sunday dinner. Or a risotto if I've been to Costco
I agree with TD that peas go with anything pretty much.

Quite a lot of chinese currys from the chippy already have peas in the curry...BWFC_Insane wrote:Wasn't TD basically having a posh version of (from chippy) chips curry sauce and peas?Lofthouse Lower wrote:Fair enough - I don't think I've ever had peas with anything other than chippy or Sunday dinner. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Just the cut. The wife prefers normal chips, but cuts mine (as thebish mentions above) as just flat slices of the whole potato (about 1/4" thick and across the spud). They're still chips but it's just a personal preference. Might just be me, but I find there's more of a potato taste that way. I'm also quite fond of the "scollop or turnover " style, half-inch thick potato slices cut down the length of the spud, dipped in batter than fried in the chip pan or a frying pan. with these you just need salt and vinegar and a slice of bread and I'm well happy.BWFC_Insane wrote:Ok TD serious numpty question here, what are flat chips?TANGODANCER wrote:Tonight had Marks and Spencers King Prawn Bhuna. Had some relatives to stay at Christmas from one of those islands in Scotland right at the top - she had a battered SAUSAGE from the chippy - a taste revelation.
