If you have time, you could really do a lot worse than just go with no plan. There's so much to see and do that you won't have time to be bored.

And I think you'll find they call themselves a "Cafe Tea Room" so really they are covering both the coffee and tea bases there.

Overpriced rubbish anyway. And Betty's is a very strange Swiss name.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Had a great time. Snowed too, which made it quite picturesque. It's a bit rough of a night though, those Geordie hen and stag groups are bit lively.
Didn't bother with Betty's - a queue around the block for a brew and some cake? No ta.
Had tea here - had the mussels in bloody mary broth followed by the duck. Superb http://www.thegodown.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Glad you enjoyed. You did miss out on Betty's though. It doesn't seem worth it but it really really is. Despite what LK says. The stuff in there is top notch in my experience.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Had a great time. Snowed too, which made it quite picturesque. Your dining experience sounds good. Is it the one opposite the dungeons?

Yes that's the one - really recommended. Doesn't look like much but extremely good. Worth the price too as it is a bit expensive for my tastes usually.

I'm taking Master Zulu up to York this Thursday for a "dad and his lad" experience. (Half term and all that) I've not been to York for about ten years so I'm looking forward to it. A lovely city.

I've always had down as being the fourth great lie, "I know a good Mexican restaurant", but I did find one once in York. Can't remember its name but it was by the castle.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Yes that's the one - really recommended. Doesn't look like much but extremely good. Went there once, got the worst case of food poisoning I have ever suffered. Will not return!Bruce Rioja wrote:I've always had down as being the fourth great lie, "I know a good Mexican restaurant", but I did find one once in York. Used to be a Mexican place oppositethe BBC on Oxford Road in Manchester. Had Enchiladas once and burnt my mouth so badly on the hot cheese I spent the rest of the day drinking water and couldn't eat for a couple of days.BWFC_Insane wrote:Went there once, got the worst case of food poisoning I have ever suffered. Really? Oh well, my theory holds up then. I must've fluked it, or had drank enough to make anything seem good.BWFC_Insane wrote:Went there once, got the worst case of food poisoning I have ever suffered. Its well regarded Bruce. And perhaps a prime example of "depends what night you go".Bruce Rioja wrote:Really? Oh well, my theory holds up then. But when I went we waited nearly an hour for someone to bother to take our order, then took an age for food to come (ok I'm in no rush and had a couple of beers so fine) food was fine and then we wanted to order a dessert, at which point we were told we'd been at the table too long and had to leave, even though we had taken a normal amount of time to eat and the reason we'd been there so long was poor service in the first place. Then the next three days were a blur as the "meal" was ejected rapidly out of several orifices and I passed out through pain. GP was called and declared "severe" food poisoning.
Understandably I won't return. But like I said I know a few people who rate it.
