indeed - (did I say they weren't?) Bolton humans are no less inherently racist than East End humans.boltonboris wrote:Some humans are racist

I've yet to see evidence of BWFC fans in large numbers, racially abusing somebody outside of a stadium.. I HAVE though, seen evidence of WHUFC fans doing this..thebish wrote:indeed - (did I say they weren't?) Which is, biologically correct, of course.thebish wrote:indeed - (did I say they weren't?) Bolton humans are no less inherently racist than East End humans.boltonboris wrote:Some humans are racist
However I'm working down by Heathrow at the moment & I have to say I've witnessed more direct, in yer face, racism & racist abuse to shopkeepers, taxi-drivers, & general public than I can recall ever, anywhere else, in all my life.
I can't speak for everywhere, nor for the things inside people's heads but unspoken, however, truly, I'm stunned by the direct verbal abuse ... accompanied by aggressive stances ... that I have witnessed these past weeks.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

but you could try reading this:
'Kicking racism out of football': An assessment of racial harassment in and around football grounds
Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies
Volume 21, Issue 4, 1995, Pages 567 - 586
abstract:
In August 1993 the Commission for Racial Equality launched a campaign to challenge racism in football. This article provides some background to the issue based on research carried out between 1989 and 1994. It is suggested that the source of such racism has been a neglected issue, despite its very public profile. It is argued that the racial abuse and chanting that surface on football terraces are examples of racial harassment. It is harassment that extends beyond the terraces and particularly impinges on the life of ethnic minority residents living in the vicinity of football grounds. The research gathered evidence from three locations - Leeds, Newcastle and Bolton - to assess the extent to which ethnic minorities, both as players and residents, were being disproportionately affected by this harassment and introduces the concept of 'burden of abuse'. Some historical background is provided and football stadia are considered as key symbolic sites where a basic white working class racism has found expression. The public policy implications are also considered and particularly the use of the 1991 Football (Offences) Act. Recommendations for action and future research are offered at the conclusion.

1. This abstract doesn't actually say anything to confirm or deny your assertion that Bolton residents are equally inherently racist to other residents of the UK. Did it make a conclusion in the main report?
2. The report is based on research undertaken between 1989-1994. That's nearly a quarter of a century ago. I would guess that a lot of perceptions have changed in the intervening years. I deplore racism. I suspect, however, that racism is nowhere near as prevalent now as it was then. No reason not to challenge it when it rears its ugly head, of course.
3. A new report commissioned today would undoubtedly come up with different findings - if for no other reason than no bugger, ethnic minority or otherwise, lives near the Reebok anyway.

I was directing that comment to my good friend Boris
Re: West Ham are complete failures! Let's all laugh at 'em!
The number of facebook statuses from former school friends on the day of the EDL protest in Bolton suggest to me that though racism may well be a generational thing, it is still very much alive and kicking.
And i've heard the odd slur in the ground, too. Though they were lone voices and I haven't heard anything like that for two years.
Anyway I don't like what we've got going on here, some kind of extreme right-wing top trumps. Maybe we could stop it with the tar and feathers and tell racists, regardless of location or whatever, to f*ck right off.

I know what you mean about the Facebook thing, but a lot of it (it seems to me) has more to do with a herd mentality rather than a genuine hatred.Verbal wrote:The number of facebook statuses from former school friends on the day of the EDL protest in Bolton suggest to me that though racism may well be a generational thing, it is still very much alive and kicking.

comparison of relative levels of racism is a dead end.
in the town where live (11 years now) - I have never heard any aggressive up-front in your face racism - YET - it is sooooooo there - deep-seated, softly spoken, behind the curtain, subtle and destructive.
6 miles away in the middle of Romford - if you walk down from one end of the market to the other with a bloke in a turban (as I did the other day) you will hear half a dozen out-loud in-your-face racist remarks every time.
both towns equally racist - but if i had to choose one - at least Romford is honest about it and it can then be confronted/dealt with.
the East End is a fantastic place - it is MASSIVELY culturally diverse - massively - and it is an exciting place to be because of that - the streets are alive at all hours...
my guess is that in such a place the expression of racism is always going to sound and look more extreme - but I don't think that means it is necessarily any more racist than any other place.
the East End has a proud history of resisting anti-semitism and (of course) Cable Street... the East End is the most culturally diverse place I know - people I have taken there from less culturally diverse places have (literally) stood with their mouths agape at the sheer ethnic diversity of the streetlife.

(I don't remember the last time I "had a pop" at Tango - can you remind me? Tango and I get along fine, thanks - but I am sure he is grateful for you fighting a non-existant battle for him.)
it seems it is YOU following me around troll-boy - this wasn't your discussion - nor was it the last time you hilariously called me a troll...

Re: West Ham are complete failures! Let's all laugh at 'em!
IMO there are two main types of racism in this country, neither of which are good or tolerable but here goes...
1) That white/brown/yellow etc bloke just bumped my car/stole my job/inconvinienced me in some way therefore I don't like all white/brown/yellow people. Or "my mates int EDL" so I best be a bit of a racist too so I fit in. These don't really bother trying to vocalise much unless they're surrounded by their mates or on the interweb. Usually these folk have not been educated very well.
2) Planned, reasoned, active and often violent racial hatred of a specific group/groups. These folk usually are very vocal and try to convince others.
I suspect there are a lot of type 1's in Bolton but not so many type 2's.
Can't speak for London though.

Bish, I think you need to take a step back and realise that you are a mega-troll of the finest standard. It's amusing from time to time, but for the majority of it then sadly it isn't.
He didn't say 'had a pop at Tango' he said what he said above - try reading before replying first eh Phil?

Mature..
I must've missed the invitation only part of the forum.. Besides, I DID suggest that West Ham has more of a Racist element than most clubs. I suggested this through personal experience and mainly on the RECENT... RECENT... evidence that is easily lifted from the internet in the form of a video of a large group of idiots confronting an asian man, for being... Well.. Asian.
But nice to know you can be mature and not at all a pillock about the whole thing
