I find it rather strange that on his twitter it says:
Real Madrid and Bolton Wanderers football player.

Do we have some sort of weird dual-ownership of him?

No, he's ours. But he may just want people to remember who he played for. So, if he moved to, say QPR, then he would tell the world that he's a "Real Madrid, Bolton Wanderers and Queens Park Rangers football player".

I think they have first refusal on a buy-back-clause in his contract.
