Brum bought their two from the championship and they've been an excellent pair.thebish wrote:it has been a joy to have a ball-playing Centre-back - but in our (financial) position, I suspect it is a bit of a luxury. ball-playing CBs who are also decent defenders are hard to come by, which is why Cahill is touted at such high prices...
I reckon the best we can hope for is a partner for Wheater - a no-nonsense, get a block in - get rid of the ball - make life bloody awkward for the opposition - solid, meaty, beast.... they are a little easier to come by.
put the flair elsewhere.
I think that is the way to go, you need a manager who picks the right players (they're not always the obvious ones) but you can get some bargains.
Re: Who stays, who goes, who comes in?
There's no one at Burnley I'd even take a second glance at. Burnley fans to a man will tell you that Eagles doesn't work hard enough and is massively inconsistent. I spoke to someone at the club when I was working up there a year ago and allegedly he's about as popular as a pork pie at a barmitzvah in the dressing room as he's a Billy Big Cheese who thinks he's too good for them.
We've not taken anyone from Scandinavia for years, no idea whether our scouting network isn't working that far North, but time for another look there methinks as are most of the European leagues who pay substantially less than clubs in the Prem.

Get Gudni on the case and see if he can't scout us some Scandanavian gems?

Didn't Gudni help us get Steinsson. Case closed there I feel
Re: Who stays, who goes, who comes in?
My fear is that if we're resigned to losing too many players (although I'd still say we've as good a chance of signing Elmander as anyone), we spread ourselves too thin and we end up bringing in shiny new dead-wood to replace our old dead-wood. The more players we do lose, the liklier it probably is that the likes of Gardner and Cohen will be staying.

Nowt wrong with a manager signing players he knows. Rioch signed Branagan and McGinlay from prior knowledge.

I agree DSB, but Coyle signing Burnley players to compete in a league they couldn't previously succeed in is not a step in the right direction for BWFC.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Nowt wrong with a manager signing players he knows. Rioch signed Branagan and McGinlay from prior knowledge.

Depends on context. I'm sure he wouldn't sign the entire squad, but he might recognise one or two who could do a job for us.MJH-12 wrote:I agree DSB, but Coyle signing Burnley players to compete in a league they couldn't previously succeed in is not a step in the right direction for BWFC.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Nowt wrong with a manager signing players he knows. If by a job you mean work in the Reebok canteen then yes Eagles could do that

I think given the lack of protection they get from midfield our defenders are on a hiding to nothing. Not saying they are world beaters or anything but they do get less protection than any other defence with top half aspirations.
As long as the wind blows, fortunes can change.

Really? Given that Muamba is employed to tackle and tackle alone as he can't do a single thing else, and then that Holden is no slouch in the tackle and has never been known to bottle out of anything, I find your comments, well, I don't wish to be rude here, but, absolutely fecking ridiculous! Sorry mate.Nobbys Belly wrote:I think given the lack of protection they get from midfield our defenders are on a hiding to nothing. Re: Who stays, who goes, who comes in?
I would agree with you but Holden has been injured for some time and Moo patently cannot do it all on his own. This has been cited plenty of times by many forumers.....why is my suggestion so fecking riduculous?

Re: Who stays, who goes, who comes in?
Ignoring that both have been injured/unfit for quite a while now, we couldn't really get away with either being anything other than tackling machines, given they're going up against a midfield three more often than not.Bruce Rioja wrote:Really? Anyway, given the fact that at least three of them are widely panned as being fecking dogshit (or at best, a passionate clogger) and the 'keeper as past-it, they've not done too badly this season - we're 10th on goals conceded.
