I think there should be a rule "If its on twitter its clearly bollocks".

Don't think we need rules for the clearly self evident.

Whereas stuff on a forum is 100% true? If Nixon started tweeting you'd be breaking your fingernails to repeat it. McNulty isn't a very good journalist or anywhere near "the know", but dismissing all tweets as irrelevant just because there's the odd wrong on there (purposeful or otherwise) is like ignoring every single thing on this forum just because people were sure Sturridge had already signed for us and Gardner for West Ham.

When you were a kid the same source that told you about the tooth fairy also told you not to cross roads in front of trucks. Grow up and use your discretion. If you weren't desperate for tittle-tattle you wouldn't be on this thread.

think it's about time people need to start realising twitter is merely a tool for people and not an independent site that reports things.

joe bloggs reporting news on there is widely different from say, a respected journalist, for example.

Woah there DSB, I didn't mean to upset anyone. I posted it more as a joke than anything.

Journalists who tweet on there are as likely to be as accurate as they are in the papers. Some very, so not so much. I don't even have a twitter account but sometimes search bwfc just to see whats being said. You have to admit that there is a high % of complete bullshitters on there. I mean there are probably hundreds of accounts of people "pretending" to be a celebrity. Then you have all these "Football agent" accounts, revealing "insider news" which I believe is what Phil McNulty re-tweeted. There is no way on earth you can know whether they're an actual agent or not.

And of course everyone is desperate for rumours and gossip. And nobody is having a go at those posting twitter rumours. Its all quite good fun. But you know I just thought it was a bit suspicious that someone claiming to be an agent was telling everyone what was going on is all.

Anyways an Arsenal fan has just tweeted that "apparently we've already signed Cahill". So thats all sorted then!

Yeah let's not speculate, or wonder, ever. Let's just wait for someone to post a confirmed story and then respond accordingly.

Jeez, this country

Besides, I would have thought DSB would be happy without the tittle-tattle competiton of Twitter. Surely its making the job harder to produce balanced pieces that take time to compile when we live in an instant throwaway gossip environment? No?

Oh, quite - although it's often journos impulsively tweeting 'without their socks on' – without secondary sources or sub-editors or any of the complicated production processes, checks and balances that go into making newspapers, magazines or reputable websites (BBC etc - rarely fast, even more rarely wrong). For evidence of this, see Henry Winter - immensely respected Telegraph writer who was widely mocked when he went on Twitter and started pushing out frankly awful brain-farts. It's a different medium, of mixed use, but interesting to those who have the ability to sift

Missing the point entirely (unless the point is simply to make a noise or to elicit a reaction, neither of which is endearing). You can speculate all you wish, but it's more than a little rich of you to then mock the speculation of others, or to decry every single piece of information from a given medium as utterly worthless. After all, I've read many informative posts on here, among the dross.

I'd guess that if Cahill signing for Arsenal was in any way imminent, we wouldn't have to rely on one persons anonymous twitter reports about it.

I'm not dismissing an entire medium, and maybe I'll be proven wrong, but my hunch is that when we even get so far as recieving a bid, it will be common knowledge.

apparently we snub gooners and probably for good reason. I suspect that bendtner requests to start every game even if he is injured.

Has anybody reported what Arsenal were valuing Bendter in that proposed deal. As much as Aresenal fans are whining that we are overvaluing Cahill one could assume that Arsenal are overvaluing Bendter a hell of a lot more.

I'm sure blackburn were thinking of offering something like 15m for him at one point. Maybe they're thinking Bendtner + 2m!

I imagine IF Arsenal were offering Bendtner it would be as a straight swap, no cash deal.

Last I heard they valued him at around £15M. Which I'm sure is a bit more than they're looking to pay for Cahill.
