Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I couldn't care less about the meanings or the location or anything like that
It's a nice day out for the relatives, a good party afterwards and a nice thing to remember.
Vicar seems happy to accept our bribes to get the one we want on the day we want, so hey, all is well

pull it all you like. if I lived my life by the narrow (and fairly meaningless slogan) "is it biblical" - then I'd be a nutter.Gooner Girl wrote:
The other issue is about whether christenings are actually biblical or not and i don't believe they are but i think its best to not pull at that string

I agree, not everything in the bible should be take literally but given the ideas of dedication and BELIEVERS baptism are in the bible why do you need an alternative that isn't?

Who has the biggest communion wafers?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Actually lopping off some poor kids foreskin for non medical reasons can be far more serious than parents deciding a kid should be baptised/christened/whatever into a particular church. lets have a sense of the grand scheme here, surely the physical aspect is abuse when the kid cannot decide for himself?

This would be best settled by a 1500m race at a mutually agreed venue.

I think you'll find the majority said "baps" anyway.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

fair enough - but I have seen the photos...Gooner Girl wrote:How do you know?! here's the new testament biblical model..
the man is the head of the household - if he decides to convert to christianity, then he will and all his household with them (whether they like it or not - that's irrelevant because their view doesn't count.) He and his wife and his children and babies were then all baptised - some say also his servants. The ceremony was conducted by a man - it would have been unthinkable for a woman to do it.
if your dedication ceremony was anything like that - then do enlighten me... (not that infant dedication appears anywhere in the bible in its own right.)
(you have posted photos - and it looks suspiciously like a woman conducted the ceremony - which isn't "biblical" - and IIRC - you said MrGG wasn't bothered either way and it was your choice. neither do I see any water being used - and I don't believe there is any "biblical" ceremony that doesn't include water symbolism...)
given the "biblical" model described above - I am very happy indeed to operate in a 21st century way and not lose that much sleep over whether something fits into a neat box called "biblical" or not.
