Worth checking (and depending what you want to do with telly), some new ones - think I recall you saying you were getting a new one a short while ago - have a USB slot for a network adapter, so you can connect the TV direct to the wireless router with a USB NW adapter...Bruce Rioja wrote:Well yiss, BUT. The laptop's here (Wireless jobbie), the TV's no more than eight feet in front of me, the internet remote jobby's upstairs in the third bedroom. I'm stumped!thebish wrote:presumably your new telly has a pc socket in the back somewhere - just use a monitor cable from laptop to telly...Bruce Rioja wrote:OK, how do I marry my laptop up with my tele?Hoboh wrote:I use a 52" screen as a moniter and trust me on stretch that pic is stunning

Yeah, I stream from my laptop to my TV via PS3 and it works fantastically well. I also used to stream live events like football via an s-cable, so I could watch it on my TV, and that was great until I upgraded my laptop. New laptop doesn't have an s-video output and I've yet to get an HDTV, so couldn't do it anymore.Wandering Willy wrote:You can connect your laptop wirelessly if you want - you will need some hardware to do it. Do a google search for wireless connection to tv.
You can also stream wirelessly from your laptop to tv through certain games consoles eg XBox. I don't have one of those but again there's lots of info on the net.
Or go to the computer shop and they'll hook you up with what you need.
But yeah, streaming to TV = win.

You can get all sort of adapters these days on the net. I'd be surprised if they didn't make an HDMI to s video one (assuming your new laptop has HDMI output). Not HDMI quality signal but you'll be able to hook up to your tv.

I bought an adapter, but didn't seem to do the trick after spending ages messing with the settings (I read that it doesn't always work, and you need to buy something to the value of over £100, can't remember what it was) so I'm just waiting til I finally buy a new TV in a few months.Wandering Willy wrote:You can get all sort of adapters these days on the net. What happens with this setup Worthy?Worthy4England wrote:Worth checking (and depending what you want to do with telly), some new ones - think I recall you saying you were getting a new one a short while ago - have a USB slot for a network adapter, so you can connect the TV direct to the wireless router with a USB NW adapter...
Does your laptop recognise the TV as a second monitor?

You lost me.
I thought the idea was for the laptop to communicate with the TV via the router.

If the TV connects to the internet, you don't need the laptop (broadly)...Wandering Willy wrote:You lost me.

Re: Twitter Whites
it is. s-video is about 10 years before vga.CAPSLOCK wrote:I thought VGA was better than s-video
s-video can only do standard def resolutions (interlaced too)- its sub scart quality as the colours are sent seperately on both scart and vga
vga does all those HD resolutions that were for wierd monitor sizes .
i ran a 1080p monitor on a vga card for ages. i think.

Have always avoided "banter" with opposition fans until this weekend, but some of the garbage directed from "global" Man Utd fans towards SKD's wife and to BWFC in general was just uncalled for. "Banter" ensued.
