They are still them.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

They're you!
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I'm not sure how true this is...

Apparently, just one square mile of land would be enough to provide all Gypsy and Traveller families in the UK with a place to stay (according to a report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.)
Is that in every town Bish, being that their whole existence is moving about from place to place ? The only time you find them all together is Appleby Fair once a year.
Only had one proposed 'solution' so far...

Worthy advocates taking their children into care... For their own good, obviously...

I've asked mummy twice what he thinks the solution is to the 'gypsy problem' with, uncharacteristically, no response, though he's active in pursuing the problem...

So, first off, we take the children away, and then... what do we do with the parents?
For a man of words, you don't half choose to pitch them they way they suit you, rather than the way they were written. :-)

Worthy advocated taking the children into care, if they weren't being educated properly. In the same way that they could be taken into care from any other family in the land - not seeking to apply any different rules/laws than already exist. The teaching of their children should be assessed like it would in any other school. As with any other section of society, if the parents are breaking no laws, then we do nothing with the parents. Where they break the law, we apply it as we would to anyone else.

The "tradition" argument quite frankly is just complete bollocks. Traditionally there were no mosques in the UK, so we should knock down the ones that have now been built, because tradition dictates they were never there in the past? Thievery has been going on for some considerable time, should we just say it's a traditional way of life and therefore should be accommodated?

are they though? ARE children from any other family in the land taken into care if they aren't being educated properly?

it was a genuine question. I suspect they aren't.... I have never heard of such a case anyway, and I'd be surprised if it was routine...

It was a genuine answer. They're probably not at the moment, specifically for non-attendance at school, but it's quite possible that non-attendance at school is as a result of wider factors involving the parents. The legislation is available to make it so. There are a range of measures a Council can use regarding non-attendance from issuing penalty notices through to taking a case to the Family Proceedings Court.

Anyhow, back to gypsies. I'm curious how many of our "trravellers rights" campaigners regularly have gypsies hauling up within say, 200 yards of their house.

I'm not active in pursuing the problem... I'm just lightly discussing the fact that I think there might be one. Nor do I think it's the most pressing issue facing society, before somebody reels off a list of all the bigger things we have to worry about.

Anyway, I don't have a 'solution' other than to say they should be encouraged to stay in one place with an address that means they can pay tax and send their kids to school.

genuine question - genuine answer - leads to genuine conclusion - that if travellers are to be treated like everyone else - then their children should NOT be taken into care if they are not educated properly....

No, they should, and the law provides for this. Just that we need to catch up with everyone else who aren't travellers too.

how does that law define "not educated properly" - I'm skeptical that such a narrow law exists...

The best way to shoo the theiving pikey bastards away is to fire air rifle pellets into the individual panels of their caravans (which they'll have nicked anyway). Costs a fortune to replace.

I have made a note of this.

Still not seen any responses yet from the ardent defenders of travellers rights, as to exactly how near their particular properties, the gypsies haul up on a regular basis...

Exactly. Even the Romainians recognise them as being a thieving nuisance.

I measured it as I took my middle son to college this morning...

I live 1.2miles from this one:

there is another about 2miles in the opposite direction, but I don't go that way often.

how about you?

So you live a decent distance away then, probably not even in sight of you. I didn't suggest 200 yards for no reason. And that's being generous.

Photo taken from my front window. See the rocks? Just the other side of them. The rocks went there in the last month after they were shifted on. There's another encampment just across the road - so comfortably less than 100 yards.

They are not quaint Romany Gypsies in little wooden caravans. They're dirty scally bastards.
