Unfortunately one has to read drivel before one realises that that's what it is... and by then it's too late!

I know it's true that those of us who incline towards the right often take ourselves too seriously, but that has to be preferable to that rubbish?!

I thought that was quite funny.

I think he's after the people who would take it seriously actually taking it seriously.

I think (in case you missed it) that in this particular piece, Brooker is simply pointing out Graeme Archer's total hypocrisy..

here's how it goes...

1. Brooker calls Cameron a lizard (satire)
2. Archer writes that nobody should call politicians names - that's disgraceful (indeed "depraved"!!)
3. Brooker points out that Archer had called Geoff Hoon "an overfed, self-satisfied cat, oozing smugness" and described Labour MPs en masse as a "legion of dead-eyed Brown spawn."

what seems to be your problem?

Well yes - he obviously got that Tory blogger on the hook, so job done, in that respect.

I'm not much excercised by it other than finding it a bit, erm, weird? :conf:

I think that's all he was doing in the piece you link - pointing out blatant hypocrisy.

what else is there to "get"?

I linked the second piece for convenience as it included the first, which was not written with that aim in mind. And any hypocrisy, insofar as there was any, could have been highlighted perfectly well without a further plunge into weirdness.

Not sure if this should be in angry thread but David Slimey Cameron going on and on about utility bills and the costs....here's an idea how about getting rid of the VAT on them!

Then when he was asked about creepy Fox instead of answering the question he went on about the great job he had done sorting out the mess the last goverment left the MOD in...PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF HEARING THIS SORT OF THING AND YOU CREEPS NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS AND ALWAYS BLAMING THE OTHER LOT.

Same for Ed Balls stating he did not think they could reverse the cuts made by the Tories...if thats the case don't moan about them doing it and never use it against them...oh and whats your answer to sorting it anyway.

Not selling them off on the cheap in the first place might be his first port of call if he's looking for answers.

1. You would call that satire?
2. No he doesn't. And he was much more precise in his use of that term, actually saying that to describe a political opponent as a blood-sucking lizard is depraved.
3. I honestly think this a different order of imagery entirely that Brooker has dug up - both fairly commonplace and barely registering on the weirdometer, even if they not the sorts of things I think I would write..

I feel that folk develop theories because they feel some bizarre need to develop theories, rather than to enhance understanding, either their own or anyone else's.

What is the VAT on utilities? I think its 5% on Gas for Domestic use, or if bottled. I don't know about electricity, but I imagine it's the same.

Be careful how you address the Dalai Hoboh, otherwise the Forces of Enlightenment may be calling to inquire about your wellbeing.

Meanwhile riot police has moved in on the Dale Farm site....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-15357932" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Reports of Taser gun usage, stone throwing, the electricity supply cut and a caravan on fire. It was always going to end in tears and both sides should be ashamed of themselves that it's come to this.

Those of us camped out on William's lawn have just had Moroccan lamb done in the Tagine and are now passing round the Veuve Clicquot and the sugared almonds. Then, we're going to tax his shed ;)

No blame on the Police for once Hoss, they are just making sure the law is being allowed to take its course.
The travellers exploited the law to their own ends @ no small cost to the rate payers, lost and now have turned to other means.
All of a sudden the law counts for "Jack", funny old world ain't it?
We either respect the law or allow others to soil their hands in clearing up these messes aka hoboh style

That my other best friends, the sweetie-pie hoodies, looted specially for me a couple of months ago... And i've been trying to get rid of those stale sugared almonds since last christmas...

Oh, and don't forget the subtitled commie movie we're going to watch after and the hooligan 4' 11" daughter throwing petrol bombs as she looks for a fight with the peace-loving opposition with the tasers...
