Stupid bloody shopping in Manchester today. Managed to distract woman for an hour by taking her to El Rincon. 'Er had Calamari (Yak) and fillet steak, and I had king prawns in filo and lamb chops, those thingies Tango was on about. They were belting. Calamari aside, which is fundamentally disgusting, the rest was gorgeous. As ever.

Have you tried squid instead?

I'm pretty adventurous food-wise, but the only time I have seen 'squid' has been calimari. The texture combined with the powerful fish taste is what gets me. I can do chewy, and I can do fishy (I loooove mackerel) but together makes me want to vom. The only other time I have seen anything eight armed was in a sea-food salad my mum had on holiday, which came with chopped up tips of tentacles, grey, looking uncooked, suckers and all. Would've been too much for me to try, and my mum is NOT adventurous. She went green.

Where do I find just 'squid' then, and what does that mean, no onion ring style batter?

I was taking the piss to be honest.

You know, all that foreign muck etc.

I don't know where you can buy squid unprepared. And if you find it a bit chewy, you're probably best trying baby squid. A fish market would be your first port of call.

I have a cold. So I made myself a raging hot vindaloo. Don't have a cold anymore. Ears popped and everything. Bliss.

Fish Pie. Ultimate comfort food. A little asparagus on the side. An on offer Pinot Grigio to drink.

Was very, very nice. Long day. Got in just before 9.00. This on the table by quarter past. Bless her.

If it's too chewy, it's probably overcooked..

I like Calamari, when it's done properly

To be honest, El Rincon do calamari better than most, so that's Prufrock fecked, basically.

Glad you liked the chuletas Pru. :D El Rincon do a dish called Salpicon. Basically a cold mixture of many seafoods. Sort of seafood salad which I enjoyed very much. Worth a try.

The owner, Rafa, a bit of a joker, once claimed he'd caught everything in the dish himself, that morning. Didn't know they had all that stuff in the Irwell.
