I just hope he isn't a wet dream!

If he is as disastrous as people say he is, then he won't play many games. Simple.

He must have been something though, if Hodgson and Coyle both wanted to sign him after a trial.

Yakubu, Grant Holt, Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll, Drogba.... The list goes on.

So I'll say again. Davies may be physically imposing but he's ineffective with it meaning he's now easy to defend against. Hence if we're using Davies as some kind of standard it's a pretty low one, relatively speaking.
I'll give you Grant Holt, and he's hardly played the 300+ games that KD has in the top flight, or scored the amount of goals at this level.

I hope Ream proves to be another Holden, and I hope KD bangs in a few headers too....
Troll and proud of it.

Time will tell though. :D
Might have escaped your notice, but handling Kevin Davies is never done by one defender. It's the way teams have learned to negate him; by one in front and one behind every time he goes near a high ball . That and claiming foul play if he wins it or fouling him, shirt pulling, arms round him and anything they think the ref will let go because of his aggressive reputation. All these things have contributed to his demise as a striker as much as advancing age. This isn't Davies trumpet blowing, it's just a counter argument that training with him has no benefit. A few Premier League defenders might well argue with you on that point.

I understand the desire not to besmirch KD's heroic former glories...

but - what's the reason he was so utterly ineffective against the Macclesfield defense?

Because for 70mins the whole team were innefective and after that he was off the field. Till Mark Davies arrived we looked absolutely clueless banging sky balls against a team that gave us a lesson in playing football.

Ream or nothing. As long as he's not Danny Shittu, I vote Ream.

Tango - do you ACTUALLY believe this?? I thought taking balls out of the air was supposed to be KD's last remaining skill? Is it not now crystal clear that he is no threat at all even to a Macclesfield defense??

you think KD would have become more effective in the last 27mins with Mavies on the field had he not been taken off?

BEFORE KD taken off (as you say) - the whole team ineffective
AFTER KD taken off - the whole team get better..

not just a coincidence, and not just Mavies...

Aye cos Ream is the only centre back in the world we can spunk a few million on now.....

Writing him off as shite before he's even signed is silly.

As is suggesting its sign him or nobody!

It'll be just like old times being able to spunk millions on shit, wouldn't you say?

The thing for me is that assuming we have £5-£7m to spend (subject to Cahill going), then we have money for 2-3 players accounting for wages n all that. Buys come under 2 main categeories for me - for now or for later.

I don't know much about this Ream fella, but it is safe to say it is unlikely he is for now. If he is a back up for Knight/Wheater that is scary, as we know that those 2 aren't really good enough as it is. If Ream is one for the future then blowing a fair chunk of or available cash on him when we need immediate impact and contribution is plain stupid.

No point preparing for the championship yet, we can do that in the summer, as long as we aren't stupid in this window.

I agree, but im not sure who we could sign that would fit straight in. QPR are looking for a replacement for clint hill i imagine and will blow us out of the water with any bid. So that rules out the obvious like onuoha. This Ream lad is a full international in a good side, but he wont get a permit automatically so thats another worry. Is there anyone floating around the championship who could do a job that isnt likely to get pronoted?

alway rated Miles addison on loan at Barnsley from derby

he had massive potential when he was abit younger but injurys have not helped and can play in a few different positions

seems to be getting back to his best it's a risk but he would be cheap

The verb to ream means to enlarge a hole. Probably not what our defence requires at the moment.

UrbanDictionary has a couple of other definitions but not of them are suitable for a family forum.

Without looking it up, I suspect they're all about enlarging holes too - just a stab in the dark.
