Devised the training plan for the Greater Manchester Marathon. Need to run 625km by April.
Somehow need to fit regular football into that as well.
Lol.

625KM is 1,000 miles, basically.Verbal wrote:Can't be that far surely? Bolton to Oostende one way. Maybe.Bruce Rioja wrote:That's the equivalent of running from Bolton to Paris and back!Verbal wrote:Devised the training plan for the Greater Manchester Marathon. Need to run 625km by April.

Well the first 9.7km of that is down.
Training with my flatmate, who's also running it. The bastard put in a quick 2km in the middle. Tired. But happy.
Only 16 weeks to go

What long runs are you doing?Verbal wrote:Well the first 9.7km of that is down.

Remember that in the early stages it's about time on your feet. Start with running for an hour, at about 9 minute pace. You should be looking to build up to a 22 miler two weeks before and then taper down from there.

Re: The athletics/running thread
did you find a club Verbal? It was you that was looking? They will really help you out when it comes to what sort of training you should be doing.
Re: The athletics/running thread
Yep, was me. Sadly I just don't have the time at the minute... we started our 10km at 9pm last night as that's the time we're currently back in from work
Hopefully new job soon though so I can fit it in. But it's definitely on 'the list'.

First 'long' run is a 13k this Sunday. We build up the distance every sunday until week 13 when we're doing a 35km run, then tapering for three weeks for the race.Gary the Enfield wrote:What long runs are you doing?Verbal wrote:Well the first 9.7km of that is down.

This is supported by parkruns each saturday, and runs everey tuesday, weds and thurs which vary in length and focus (ranges from flat 12kms to uphill training, interval training etc). I've got a training plan if you want a look, it's nicked (and varied) from some marathon website somehwere.
Yeah legs feel fine today. I've done over twice that distance before so (i dont think) that'll be a problem at the start, it's just getting into regular running again before we go for 20k+ runs in a few weeks' time.
Football friendly tonight. Instead of the planned 11km going to do that and 4km jog home. Lovely stuff.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Don't beat yourself up too much sticking to the programme either. It's supposed to be fun!

Triple Jump is FUN, running is ok, but tbh sometimes i find it a bit boring when i'm on a long run at times!Gary the Enfield wrote:Verbal wrote:First 'long' run is a 13k this Sunday. It will be! My friend does a lot of orienteering and I do a lot of football so we try to fit that in in places instead of runs.
How's your training going?

Aye, i have football tonight and running is way more fun when you're chasing after a ball. Changes in speed and direction, its good fitness work.Verbal wrote:It will be! My friend does a lot of orienteering and I do a lot of football so we try to fit that in in places instead of runs.

My training isn't exactly setting the world alight. I have a run 29th January, 4 miles along Worthing seafront. I know i can run it without training so not being massively motivated to train. Perhaps i need a new challenge? At the moment i am doing maybe a couple of runs a week of between 3-5 miles and football training once. I wonder about entering a 10km but fear i will be left for dead by everyone else!
Really missing Triple Jump to be honest, haven't done much track and field the past few years what with the twins and am sooo out of practice and there are probably younger, better jumpers at the club now but might get to a couple of meets in the summer. Problem is lack of time to train as whenever i am near a pit i am normally coaching!
My aim this year was to learn to pole vault but would have to travel at least 30 min for that and it looks like the only indoor pole vault facility in the County is being closed anyway
