Re: The athletics/running thread
I did a hills session this morning. 30 minutes pendulum of hills (approx 6k) then 200m sprint with 10 squats after the first 100. To finish we did 10 squats, 10 lunges and 10 press ups times 4.
10 mile long run tomorrow with another sprint session on Monday then 2 days rest.
Feeling strong. :0)

Awful first 2km but despite that reaasonably confident I've got a PB, and hopefully sub 23 minutes. Again felt like I was flying for the last km
My flatmate was on sub 4minute kilometres. Then threw up after three and had to withdraw from the race.

Reckon I'm good for 22.30 next weekend still.
Good stuff Gary

actually - once over the cold - with the low sun, blue sky and frosty grass - then running back the partly frozen lake - it was actually quite stunning!!
when I finished and warmed down a bit - I walked down the the lake and as I stood watching the ducks for a moment - I noticed that I was actually steaming!!
Re: The athletics/running thread
ok - times have been posted...
I came 43rd out of 72 with a time of 28min 32secs...
fastest was 17mins 54, slowest was 41mins 09
Now I have a properly measured benchmark...

Re: The athletics/running thread
Have just completed my first '20 minutes continuous' run, then drove round my route to see how far I'd ran. It was exactly two miles - is that alright or a bit rubbish? To be honest though, I was really only interested in keeping going for the full 20 mins rather than trying to set the heather alight.

Re: The athletics/running thread
The thing I always notice when I have periods of not doing much/increased schmokes, is not that I get any slower, but that the length of time I can do in a row is substantially affected. 20mins isn't bad going at all Brucey.
Well done thebish too. And as for Verbals, well, have fun with that!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Any running's creditable and no result is rubbish, so well done and keep it up. I'd ignore clocks and distance for now and just run till you've had enough then push a little bit more out. Once you get your breathing regulated and comfortable you can start setting yourself targets.Bruce Rioja wrote:Have just completed my first '20 minutes continuous' run, then drove round my route to see how far I'd ran. Re: The athletics/running thread
20 minutes continuous effort is fine. 2 miles is obviously 10 minute miling or 6 miles an hour. Keep building it up but basically if you run for another 13 minutes you'll have done 5k ish in 33 minutes which is fine for starters. Keep up the good work!Bruce Rioja wrote:Have just completed my first '20 minutes continuous' run, then drove round my route to see how far I'd ran. sounds bang on course to me, Bruce - that's pretty much exactly where I was at that stage...Bruce Rioja wrote:Have just completed my first '20 minutes continuous' run, then drove round my route to see how far I'd ran. that's a 10min mile...
I am currently only running a 9m12sec mile... and that's several weeks after finishing the programme.
I'd say you're bang on track - if not ahead of the game!
Re: The athletics/running thread
Did 13km on Sunday. Supposed to do 8km tonight. Failed miserably. Calves completely went so i'll take that as 'rest us now you dick'.

is "calves completely went" as bad as it sounds??? did you collapse??Verbal wrote:Did 13km on Sunday. Supposed to do 8km tonight. Failed miserably. Calves completely went so i'll take that as 'rest us now you dick'.
much lesser problems with my creaky old frame...
I have one grumbly calf and a grumbly achilles on my left leg and a grumbly knee on my right leg - and a tweaked muscle under my shoulder blade (which is nowt to do with running but is very debilitating!)

No no no...what I lack in fitness I make up for in melodrama
Just very very tight. Started off and felt like someone had clamped them. Managed about 4km before I saw my senses. Done too much too soon. Should be good after some stretches and a day off.

Lots of G&T Bish. The tonic has a relaxing effect on muscles, so a scientist type tells me. I reckon the gin has a relaxing effect too, so all round a combo that is good for youthebish wrote:ahhh!!Verbal wrote:No no no...what I lack in fitness I make up for in melodrama
