Reebok is the right place for me - Boyata

Very nice. Pity it's not the right place for his mate Nedum Onuoha, who's set to sign for QPR on 80kpw

Great defender but a little bit out of our price range

Headline's not quite what he's saying really. He knows when Kompany comes back he'll be a bencher at best so he's better off hanging here till season end. Least that's how I read it. Not really a "I love Bolton" statement, just best of two options.

Agreed. Not exactly brimming with enthusiasm for the place.

Apparently the real interview is this...

DEDRYCK Boyata is the first to admit he couldn't care less about the Wanderers.

But he insists he has learned much from his Reebok struggles and is happy to be picking up a few million quid this year for doing very little.

The young Belgian defender was linked with a return to the Etihad Stadium after City lost the services of their captain, Vincent Kompany, for four matches following his red card in the FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United.

But Boyata’s preferred option is to see out the season with Wanderers and continue his lazy layabout ways.
“I heard City may have wanted me to go back when Kompany got sent off,” Boyata said, acknowledging the recall rumours.

“They say they haven’t got too many defenders but they have. Against Wigan, (Nedum) Onuoha came on, so they have got solutions.

“When I heard they may be needing me there were two reactions: the first was I am going to go back and might be shown up for the fraud I am. But then I thought, hang about, I could just stay here and have that big lump Knight make me look half decent. Who knows City may even give me a pay rise when I go back"

“What I am doing at Bolton and staying until the end of the season is a better solution and I don't have to do anything difficult other than hide and pretend I'm dead ace but let down by the clowns around me.”

Boyata has been unable to command a regular place in Owen Coyle’s first XI, with the majority of his starts coming at right-back – and with it the inconvenience of having to turn up on a Saturday.

So it was hardly surprising that he hated his appearance at centre-back in the FA Cup replay against Macclesfield in midweek, when Coyle made five changes to the team that started at Manchester United on Saturday.

“It was only the second time I had played at centre-half – the first time was against Chelsea and I only played the first half,” he said, recalling the fact he was quite cold that day.

Boyata scored Wanderers’ consolation goal against Chelsea just after half time, after being switched to right-back.

“I think this was a good game to be able to stroll around nonchalantly and not have to run, so I enjoyed it" he said.

“It’s been difficult,” he said. “Sometimes you have to move whilst playing here. I am on loan at a team that is struggling, but it’s good for me because I have never been in this position before.

“I have had my up and down days and I am a bit mental. Even though I have been on the bench or not in the side I have had a fun time with my mates round town, so the longer the better really.

“For me, it’s a good challenge. When you see it from the outside you always say it can’t be easy for the players because the team is struggling. But I am here to make sure I look as good as possible alongside failures like Knight and Wheater.”

Boyata added: “It’s not always good to be in a comfortable position all the time. Sometimes I've had to move from the couch and its hard, really hard."

“We are at the bottom of the league, but we are looking to bounce back. Well maybe not bounce because that involves some energy, perhaps pogo lightly, on the spot for a few seconds

“It won’t be easy because we have got Liverpool on Saturday and I might have to turn up and sit on the bench. I will try my best, if I can drag myself away from the friends boxset I got for Christmas".

Never....

But come on, we tried to send him back but Citeh wouldn't use their recall (even though they needed a player), the lad is lazy, its common knowledge!

Well, I laughed. Like I laughed on another thread at the similar faux-news report from Worthy - y'know, the one nobody moaned about.

I met Diawara in that coat/outdoor shop that used to be next door to HMV/whatever at the Reebok when he was here. I went over to him and said "Hello! Nice to meet you" and offered a handshake. He looked at me with a stern expression on his face for a good 10 seconds, laughed at me, went for a bro handshake/fist bump and said "Ra Ra Ra" and walked out the shop.

Quite an experience.
