ok - so didn't actually get round to this on monday for several reasons - so is on for when I get back later on tonight...

Just watched The Guard. Utterly, utterly seriously brilliant. Absolutely piss funny. For those of you that think bilge like The Hangover is funny - watch The Guard!

Just watched Leon. Fook me, Natalie Portman is good. Thirteen!

Just finished the new (to DVD) Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
Enjoyed it very much, though Oldman played the part well.

I watched Distant tonight... As slow a film as I've ever seen... And pretty inconsequential... Not in the same universe as Edge of Heaven... See what LF send next... But this not in the same league as Akin when it comes to telling a story, or plumbing emotional depths...jmjhb wrote:I loved that film, it left a lasting impression on me. Really, really good. You should check out Head-On, a similar film by the same director Fatih Akin.
You also might be interested in the works of Nuri Ceylan, more specifically Distant, Climates and Three Monkeys, though these are solely set in Turkey rather than the Turkish-German perspective of Akin.

Not as good as he is in Leon

I enjoyed the most part. The scenes towards the end are just fecking stupid, but I think it gets away with it in the context. Reno is Reno, and she is amazing.thebish wrote:that was a cracking film IIRC...Prufrock wrote:Just watched Leon. Fook me, Natalie Portman is good. Thirteen!

I'm not sure about horrifically thin, though I know she lost nearly two stone for Black Swan. Didn't realise she was Israeli either. That's my attempt at non-sequitor of the week.

His main weakness is he lacks the mental strength to convert break points and to keep up the intensity when he gets ahead in the match.BWFC_Insane wrote:How predictable...
He's unlucky that he's in this era, he really is.
He's just never going to be quite good enough to beat 2 of Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic over 5 sets. Even if he'd have gotten through today he'd never have had enough left in him to get past Nadal IMO!
He can play at the same level (and it's quite a sight to see) as these incredible players for long periods of time. With practice he may continue to narrow the gap and I do believe he also has the youth and fitness to outlast all three in the long run...
Obviously though, he'd rather best them in a grand slam final. I personally think he'll pick up a couple of Aussie and Us Opens before he's done.

Cheers for the heads-up, Chief. Seriously brilliant. Even better than In Bruges IMO.General Mannerheim wrote:Thought you'd like it.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watched The Guard.
