Sam Ricketts
Seems never to have signed an extension to the three-year contract Megson gave him in summer 2012. So he'd have to renew, at a new level of fiscal reality, for a lower division. And he seems to have left Hull in the first place over contract wrangles.

So, Joe Riley for next year's tier-two right-back...

I suspect Jussi and Ricketts may stay of the 2012 lot. We're certainly going to save a packet on wages when the rest go so there may be an opportunity to invest in a couple of players and balance the books a little better.Thats quite a lot of dead or dying wood to be on the payroll.

We have a small squad as it is and I doubt we will replace those players in one transfer window, if we were not going to renew their contracts we should of tried to sell them earlier

We may well have tried but I doubt there'd have been a queue of buyers.I remember McGinley implying we were hamstrung by players on good contracts that we wouldnt get much for. A year ago we may have got 2mil for Knight, 500000 for Robbo 1mil for KD,Steinsson and Klasnic possibly but thats assuming clubs would be happy to pay their wages. The rest would have been frees. We may have got about 6/7 million at best for the lot which wouldnt have been much to provide depth.
At a push we may give Knight another year(hopefully as cover) but only because we cant afford anything much better. I suspect though if we stay up we'll be back in for Williams at Boro unless they get up.I think we will be operating with a smaller squad than ever next year whether we stay up or not.Even with that lot gone we may only sign 2/3 in the summer and get some more loanies. The majority of those coming to the end of their contracts havent really contributed much to the squad this season and will hardly be missed.

I think there'll be talks with them (and others, especially if we stay up), but they may have to accept reduced wages - quite possibly severely so in Jussi's case.

If we stay up, I can see us offering Ricketts, Jussi, KD and Knight contracts. (I'm not saying it would be right.) Steinsson's card is probably marked by Mears and Riley, and I can imagine Petrov wanting more than we'll give.

If we go down, I can imagine we'd be offering way below Jussi & KD's wants, but we might make more effort to keep players more likely to work at that level, like O'Halloran and Connolly. Maybe even Robbo...

You may well be right,it'll certainly be an interesting summer.Of the ones you mention I just dont see the point in keeping KD now.I'd rather see Eaves and Sampson given the chance.. Mears is still struggling for fitness and who knows what will happen with Alonso so we may be hunting fullbacks for a change.Given our finances versatile players like Ricketts and Williams are going to be very important.

Borderline brinksmanship but I doubt we'll offer new terms till they come back alive and kicking. We won't want to offer high wages to players who need to prove fitness and they won't want to accept low terms just because they haven't proved it yet. If they manage to come back and finish the season strongly then there may be extension talks in summer... assuming we stay up.
