well - in that case you're only one place off where you expected to be - and you're still in the cup - and even if you get knocked out - that's only one league place and one cup less than expectation!! so - that's not so bad!!

as for us - we're 6 or 7 places below where we might have expected or hoped to be - which is MUCH worse!

no, you're right - that's not the excuse... according to Wenger, there are three reasons for Arsenal getting knocked out of the FAcup...

1. that the ref didn't give a penalty for O'Shea's challenge on CamperVan
2. the "difficult schedule"
3. a difficult pitch

otherwise, Arsenal gave a "spirited and committed performance" and the players are to be praised. Also, (Wenger says) "It is always easier to defend than to attack" (this was meant as a dig at Sunderland's game-plan - but.... If it actually is so easy to defend... - well, I'm sure everyone can complete that sentence for themselves...)
