Re: The athletics/running thread
Well life is getting better. Running? Not so much.
Absolutely shocking 5k on Saturday, rather forget about it. Set off like an absolute tw*t and completely merked myself for the last 2k. However, as it was in Mile End Park, did get to see Christine Ohurougu training over the Green Bridge. She's a bloody thoroughbred!
Ambled through some runs this week without ever feeling great. Determined to improve my 5k for tomorrow though. I HAVE to. Then a 20k to do, too

I only ever drink fully skimmed milk, but plenty of it. Is that better or not as good as fatty milk, do we know?Verbal wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Top manBruce Rioja wrote:Just done my 2nd 5K in consecutive evenings - including a 1/4 mile uphill.
My legs have now fell out with me!I saw something on telly t'other night about the great attributes of milk. Apparently, its several times more efficient than isotonic drinks when it comes to aiding recovery.
Got the day off tomorrow to do the first pre marathon 20 miler. Legs will be sore enough afterwards but supposed to be driving up to Scotland on Saturday - I think I'll let Mrs G do the honours

Think the whole debate is here - looks pretty conclusive to me.
I used to do half pint of milk (not skimmed - not sure skimmed was even an option when I last trained) + raw egg in same glass after running...and generally before weights..

The programme I saw said whether it was skimmed, semi or full fat didn't matter. Not sure about sterilised though (do they still do that?)
Just had a pint of skimmed after a pretty gruelling 18 miler. Was looking to do nearer 20 but was out for just under 3 hours. Bloomin pooped now

Re: The athletics/running thread
yeah... is still available but not as common - used to come in crown-cap bottles and tasted vile. My grandad used to have it - so tea or cereals at his house - a big fat NO! it was milk that had been superheated somehow to sterilize it (hence the name) - then I think they added cats wee...Gooner Girl wrote:Eh?bobo the clown wrote:I used to LOVE it. Basically, yeah. I used to have to deliver it (I can still feel those tops digging into my fingers) and by and large only ever delivered it to elderly people who, I assume, were brought up on it as a result of them growing up with no fridge.Gooner Girl wrote:

I liked it as a kid too. The bottles used to have them long necks. Pasteurised with all that scum round the bottle top used to put me right off.

My auntie used to get it. Looked forward to going there just for that. Legendary. I'd probably hate it now.
