I tell you, mate, you'll be surprised how soon you can. My legs aren't even stiff (well, not uncomfortably).Wandering Willy wrote:I'll chase you anytime.Gooner Girl wrote:

I was surprised at the time but today I really concentrated on trying to keep a rhythm going. I think I lengthened my stride a bit which may have improved my speed. Not sure really.
There's no way I could have done another 2.5k though.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Came in at 28min 49 secs which I am chuffed with.
Come a along way in 2 months when I did little exercise and smoked 30 tabs a day.
yeah - just a little slower and you'll be at GG's pace...

Give yourself a break! Bruce has been running a bit longer then you have and you just did a very respectable time for a 5km for someone who hasn't run it before. Get a few more of them under your belt before extending how far you run.
Re: The athletics/running thread
Had an absolute dogshit week.
Working crazy hours so had to skip all my runs and rely on junk food and stupid amounts of relentless. Been feeling so stressed and ill all week not doing any exercise.
Did a 13/14km or sommat like that today just to get back into the swing of things. Felt shit but had to be done. I'm supposed to be doing half marathons every sunday by now
5km tomorrow morning and football in the evening and i'll better i think.
Volunteered at hackney parkrun this morning too. Which was nice.

Missed the parkrun this morning. Matey Boy ended up coming back to mine post pub and we ended up righting the world's wrongs over a few glasses of tinto. Didn't wake up til 9:45.
Still, at least the world's a better place now

My exile in Llandudno means I won't be playing football for the next couple of months, so need other ways to keep fit. Running doesn't really agree with me, so I've brought the bike down. Managed the 200m climb up the great orme today and the loop round marine drive. Beautiful route to cycle on, with a decent climb and sea views all the way round. Think I'll make it a regular thing.

Had a similar week diet wise to Verbals. Was in Scotland so only seemed right to down a lot of beer and eat huge quantities of saturated fat. Did a couple of 4 milers but tomorrows race (Trotters 5) is going to hurt.

I'm waiting for the weather to clear up so I can head out on the bike again. It's stopped raining, but still clouds hanging low over the hills!

Certainly is in Sussex at the moment. Miserable weather! So i think i might bottle out of running this weekend and take the twins swimming later instead (which is not really 'exercise', but never mind...)Gary the Enfield wrote:I thouht the weather in Wales was: "it's raining" or "it's about to rain"?jimbo wrote:I'm waiting for the weather to clear up so I can head out on the bike again. Well done, 20 seconds isn't much off and if up north is like here the weather is pretty horrid. Plus, you're another year older this year...Harry Genshaw wrote:Not too bad taGooner Girl wrote:How did the race go Harry?. Bit disappointed that I was 20 seconds slower than last year but I'm putting that down to the wet conditions and the booze I had last week. I've got the Blackpool half marathon next week which should be a good indication of if my marathon training is on track or not.
Well done Willy - excellent progress
