Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
See NRC has issued another 'wake up' call to his Wanderers team-mates.
This one is for them to stop thinking about their futures and play their best for the club.
I know someone from the BEN has asked him for a quote but Jesus H how many times must we hear this story? As a professional footballer shouldn't you be doing that anyway? Shouldn't you have some concept of the teams position in the league and what's required to get out of that situation?
I imagine Reo-Coker tip-toeing around the dressing room like Snow White tucking in all the other players intot their cots and whispering lullabys into their ears.
Then 5 minutes before kick-off he turns Cbeebies on and walks around saying 'Wake up Sleepy, Wake up Dozy, wake up Useless, wake up Arsehole, Clapped-Out, Lazy, Tosser, Numbskull.....'
Unreal.

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
Not entirely sure of your point here, TC. The quotes are thus:
Then Kevin Davies says:You can keep an eye on them [the younger players] but the onus is on them to pick up their game to the next level. All you can do is comfort them and try to help them the best way you can. You can’t physically make them go up to the next level, it’s up to them. They need to deliver out on the pitch and show people why they are playing in a Premier League team each week.
Not sure I see too much odd there...The situation we’re in puts more emphasis on the management, the staff and the senior players – like myself, Nigel, Zat [Knight], Jussi [Jaaskelainen] - all have to play our part. I’m not sure who in the squad has been in this situation before. I certainly have but some of the senior players maybe haven't. Everyone is down after losing six points but it’s important that we stick together.

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
NRC needs to have a look at his game before critiscising others.
I'm constantly bewildered by pundits saying he is one of best players etc
He is awful. He just jogs around, wanting the ball straight to his feet and gives away too many needless free kicks IMO.

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
I'm saying that this must be about the 5th time this season an Angry/Disappointed/Perplexed Reo-Coker has issued a wake up call to his Wanderers team mates.
The first season we came up to the Prem all the talk was about 'learning curves' and how we had to 'start turning performances into wins' and 'see games out'.
Well we didn't and we went down.
Am I alone in thinking that footballers should be 'awake' from the first day of the season? They've been in a professional environment since being what 14? 15? You're not telling me that even someone as young and as inexperienced as Ryo doesn't know what's required of him?
If NRC has a problem with some lazy bastards (and I think he probably does) then the players should sort that out in the dressing room and on the training ground.
Not on the back page of the BN.
Wakey Wakey Wakey Wanderers.

When is the player of the year vote? Only one winner. Had Bogdan and Ricketts played more of thre season they'd have run him close but they havent. There again could say the same for Wheater, Moo,Tuncay and Sordell

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
Think about it though, some Journalist is getting the quote. What else is he meant to say other than "we need to wake up" or whatever? He can hardly say anything else to them.coffeymagic wrote:I'm saying that this must be about the 5th time this season an Angry/Disappointed/Perplexed Reo-Coker has issued a wake up call to his Wanderers team mates.

Yeah, I did say that at the top. I appreciate he can only answer the question he's been asked and if the BN are constantly asking him the same questions he's going to give the same answer.
Maybe he should be issuing a wake up call the the Sports Editor of the BN.

But... unless you're reading a different story... it's not a wake-up call. Again, the quotes are:
"You can keep an eye on them [the younger players] but the onus is on them to pick up their game to the next level. All you can do is comfort them and try to help them the best way you can. No mention of sleeping, slumbering or Wee Willie Winkie...

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
Well they do have to fill their pages somehow. I'd rather read a rallying cry than Reo-Coker telling them about what he had for breakfast.coffeymagic wrote:Yeah, I did say that at the top. He's captain, we're doing badly, he should be rallying the troops. The local paper is reporting that he is doing that. I don't see where the problem lies. No-one is making you read it.

I never said it was wrong for a captain to issue a 'rallying call' I never said I was forced to read it (although I am. A man from the BN stands behind me with a gun going 'Read it! Read it! ALL OF IT! The Bennies, Before The Courts EVERTHING!).LiOC wrote:Well they do have to fill their pages somehow. What I was saying was how many times have we had this story this year?
I said right at the very start that I know he's being asked the question.
If all you're interested in is reading the same thing over and over again as long as the words Bolton and Wanderers are in it.
Roll up yer BENs!

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
Surprisingly, the BN don't get much out of the club and what little they get, they need to fatten out and make it as big a story as they can. They need to fill about 5 pages a day. That's pretty difficult when you don't get much access to the players on a day-by-day basis.
They have to re-hash stories sometimes and spin things around a little.
This could be one of those occasions.

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
See, I seem to remember Zat Knight having the utter audacity to speak out to the press about players needing to "step up to the plate" after we'd been gubbed again a little earlier in the season, after he'd had a shocker even by HIS standards, in a similar bluster of nowt-to-do-with-me-Gov-ishness!
Reo Coker probably is our most consistent player this year, albeit consistently beneath the level required in Premier League football!

Aye Zat Knight being wheeled out weekly really grated. Especially when caught on camera sharing a LOL with opposition centre forwards after a drubbing.

Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
Think that's a bit OTT but he's not as good as people make out. It's only because he's playing in a midfield that includes garbage like Pratley and Eagles, that makes him look better than he is. It's a similar situation when we had Danny Guthrie playing in a midfield with Gavin McCann and Mikel Alonso.HM Murdock wrote:NRC needs to have a look at his game before critiscising others.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's bad but he's not great either. NRC wouldn't have got anywhere near the side when we had the Campo, Speedo and Stelios crew.
Re: Nigel Rip-Van Winkle.
All I'm saying is give the BN some leeway, it must be hard to fill that paper. They have to rehash that story of rallying calls because otherwise they'll have a big blank space. If we're in the same position we'll get the same story over and over. If we were in 4th now all we'd get is people saying how proud they are rehashed over and over. They rehash bin stories, council stories, gritting stories over and over when the same thing is happening because they have to fill their pages, even if it is utter rubbish.coffeymagic wrote:

I'm not interested in it. I don't buy the Bolton News. I don't even read it online unless there is something fascinating going on (not often). You are the one saying they're repeating themselves and drawing attention to it. Don't read it if you don't want to. I don't.
