Went to see (well, was dragged to see tbh) 'Salmon Fishing in Yemen".
It was v v good.
It was v v good.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

LF Have sent me Dreams of a Life, as mentioned earlier in the week by the General. Looking forward (with some trepidation) to watching it later.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Watched vol 1 of Shakespeare Retold - a recco from Senor Rioja. The BBC bring Shakespeare's stories up to date (and shorten considerably). Tonight I watched Much Ado About Nothing in which the court of Messina becomes a regional TV station in Wessex in - a guess - late 1980s.
The story transforms really well and sure-footedly becomes a story for our (ish) times in the hands of excellent writer for TV and film, Peter Nichols.
I followed that with Macbeth in which 11th Century Scotland is shrunk to a Michelin starred restaurant in Scotland. This is less successful but still has great ideas - like the three witches become three bin men, and the promise that Macbeth shall not be overthrown until Birnam Wood come to Dunsinane is replaced with one that not until pigs shall fly above him shall he fall - and the police land on the roof of his restaurant in a helicopter...
Good recco, Bruce... I expect vol 2 from LF next post...

It is indeed. The first thing that surprised me was - I was expecting it to be about an elderly woman and a breakdown in social care, not about a stunningly attractive girl that was in the same year as me at school. It is a desperately sad story. The thing that's nagging away at me is - those Christmas presents? She was wrapping them for someone. Surely someone was expecting to see her over Christmas. She had four sisters FFS. Thing is, a girl that used to work for me lives a similar sort of nomadic life in which she's attracted by rich men and glamorous lifestyles and loves being part of that scene. She stayed at mine for a while when she first moved down from Scotland and my circle of friends became her circle of friends, went out with the wealthy one, then a better offer turned up and she moved on. Had I not received an out-of-the-blue text from her last month, none of us would have known if she was now dead or alive.General Mannerheim wrote:its not only fascinating, but a brilliant film too - look forward to hearing your thoughts...
Suppose we'll never know what really happened to Joyce Vincent. Who'd been beating her up though? Her dad?
