have you ever got into a fight at a football match?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Once had a gherkin from a cheeseburger thrown at me from a disgruntled Man City fan.

Oh and chuddy from a Mansfield fan in a van, don't ask why I was in Mansfield. I just was.

No.

No, no, no, no. No.

Noooooooo.

It simply doesn't work like that DJ.

Fess up man.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

It's really not that interesting.

I was forced to go and retrieve some cash from a Driving School that was going tits up. Their head office was in Mansfield so I took it upon myself to go via 3 trains to get my cash back before the administrators moved in. Long story cut short, got cash back, face hit with chuddy with the words "Wanky Wanderer", train home.

All in all a good old day.

Thinking about it, I don't know why this moment has remained in my memory.

Don't decry your experience pegleg. This is what a lot of young men did back in the day. Me? I removed myself from the arena. I didn't get it, but a lot of my mates at the time did.

Celebrate the fact you recognise now what you did was wrong, but in the context of the time it was what (some) people did.

I know where you're coming from Gary, & in the late 70's early 80's, it was more of a social thing than people give credit for. Work all week for crap wages, meet up in a pub (usualy the White Lion in those days); get hammered & go to the match. However, if you saw any away fans en route to the ground, or homer's if we were away, the main rule was you don't run. Ever. ( With hindsight, rather stupid ). As mentioned, I got up to some stuff I'm not proud of, but on the other hand, I had some of the best laughs I can remember during those days.

I see that there's a rash of books been brought out by former hooligans. In fact, I think there's a BWFC one out now. I tried to read one called Scally by an Evertonian. I got about halfway through before giving up on the self-glamorising tosser that wrote it. I've always hated football related violence with a passion.

i dont think ive ever thrown or copped a punch at the footy, but have been in a few uncompromising confrontations, in which ive mostly relied on my natural quickness to get the feck outta there! ive 'given it toes' as they say in Manchester, Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Porto, Marsielle, and Norwich of all places! might have thrown the odd missile tho
