Well. I can't speak for the Bard, but I'm pretty sure I was referring to the size of the thing.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Biggest Week of Our Lives???
Aye, Ricketts would be my first extension negotiation, whether we're up or down. Then possibly Steinsson, although I suspect Coyle sees Mears as the present and Riley as the future (with Ricketts as back-up?). After that we're getting into over-paid also-rans, from those who have served the club brilliantly to those whose time has gone to those who have barely featured.LiOC wrote:I don't think anyone has said we should. It's just he's out of contract and whether he'll accept a wage cut and championship football if we go down.Jez wrote:I really dont understand why people think we should let ricketts go
hes a premier league competent player with experience who can play across the whole of the defense and in midfield if really needed, hes pretty much the most useful fit player in the squad (bar maybe NRC)
There's a couple I'd keep on, but Ricketts is the one I want to keep most.

Sorry, I forgot Ricketts but we have two I'm assuming cheaper RBs. Keep him on the left as CB cover too.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Aye, Ricketts would be my first extension negotiation, whether we're up or down. Bold = prem level players. Italics = championship stars.
GK: Bogdan, Lainton, Lynch
RB: Mears, Riley
CB: Ream, Wheater, Connolly, Blakeman
LB: Ricketts, Alonso
DM: Pratley, NRC
CM: Holden, Mavies, Vela
RW: Eagles, Lee
LW: Wylde
ST: N'Gog, Sordell, Eaves, O'Halloran
We might lose one or two but I think the advantage of Holden and Lee being injured is they may stay for a year till people see how good they hopefully still are. Also, Mavies could do with one more year salting in championship he's not quite there as a top half starter. N'Gog no-one will want and NRC is most likely to move on. Bounce back up with this lot and a couple more Coyle bargains and the transformation will be complete. Drop the average age to 23 or so yet with plenty of prem experience.
Losing all the big wage over 30s: Jussi, Petrov, SKD, Knight, Steinsson, Blake, Sean Davis, Ricardo Gardner, Klasnic
If we stay up I think we should do it anyway. Clear the wage bill at least. Fire the physios and trainers and let Coyle trawl the free transfer market, bargain bin etc. Unfortunately we are in a better position to go down than stay up because we have no saleable assets that we want to sell also am I wrong in thinking the parachute payments would service our debts? I'm beginning to think it may be in the club's best interests to go down and try and do a Newcastle. Clean slate. Come back, younger, stronger, hungrier with more fans because we've had a massively successful season behind us. Of course we could stay down...

Re: Biggest Week of Our Lives???
If you mean as a loan signing, DB arrived three weeks after TM's injury. (He also offered more cover along the back in case of Cahill departure, etc. Intriguing to speculate which other City paklyer we might have otherwise borrowed - I'd like to see us borrow John Giudetti next term.)officer_dibble wrote:if mears is the present, why boyota? just askin like...
If you mean why DB rather than TM played at Sunderland – I've no idea, Dibs...
Re: Biggest Week of Our Lives???
All this talk of keeping Lee and Holden if we go down neglects one small thing:
Both are out of contract in 2013
Even injured they represent our most saleable assets. If we go down we may well have to sell them to fund rebuilding the squad.

I doubt anyone would buy them. Certainly not for worthwhile money.....Whookam wrote:All this talk of keeping Lee and Holden if we go down neglects one small thing:

Someone would spunk a good few million on Lee, maybe a promoted team or the like.BWFC_Insane wrote:I doubt anyone would buy them. Certainly not for worthwhile money.....Whookam wrote:All this talk of keeping Lee and Holden if we go down neglects one small thing:

Gartside has said we wouldn't need to sell if we went down as Eddie Davies would help out and we'd already be losing 12 players from the wage bill.

Exactly. Which is a grand chance to rebuild in the necessary fashion, dependent on division.BWFC_Insane wrote:Gartside has said we wouldn't need to sell if we went down as Eddie Davies would help out and we'd already be losing 12 players from the wage bill.
I just hope OC has a better hit rate than he's shown so far.

Losing players from the wage bill doesn't fee up funds for transfer fees!BWFC_Insane wrote:Doubt that with him getting some games under his belt.Whookam wrote:Someone would spunk a good few million on Lee, maybe a promoted team or the like.BWFC_Insane wrote:I doubt anyone would buy them. Er...cos Mears copied CYL and got his leg broke?

I suspect 'present' in this context means 'opening game next season'.
Btw if, with luck, that opening game is a Prem game, we'd better pray that CYL and Holden (and maybe even Muamba) make full recoveries. If not, this season's miseries could just be a taster of what's to come...

Re: Biggest Week of Our Lives???
Mears is (like Alonso) the type of full-back Coyle seems to have wanted: predominantly attacking, even at the risk of defensive liability. Maybe he's recognised that (particularly in 4-4-2) we need more solidity? If so, polite applause...officer_dibble wrote:if mears (and riley) is fit why does coyle shoehorn boyota in at right back? cos mears couldnt tackle a fish supper thats why.

I haven't seen enough of Mears to make such a judgement. Have you?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Mears is (like Alonso) the type of full-back Coyle seems to have wanted: predominantly attacking, even at the risk of defensive liability.
