A rumour doing the rounds on twitter is that Stu-ey has signed a new long term contract???

I'd say it's 99% bollocks, especially without knowing which league we'll be in first, but is a nice thought..

Coming in on a free from the MLS i would think Stu isn't on a silly wage.. also its good to have the contract in place to drive up the price if any interested parties come in for him at some point next season.

Yep there's nothing like being out injured for a year to improve your bargaining position...;)

Main worry over Holden is not his contract status but when is he likely to start playing? And whether when he does he will be as effective.

He's been out a long time now. I thought he was meant to be back around the same time as Chungy?

D'you know waht, it wouldn't surprise me if this was true.
With the club making the official announcement on Monday morning. Y'know cos this good news will magically erase the relegation misery.

Chances are the contract is probably improved terms with a transfer release clause at such a figure deemed appropriate by the club and the player. Would be stupid to add in a relegation release clause in these uncertain times.

I'm happy to have him here a bit longer. Congrats Stu.

American international Stuart Holden has pledged his future to Bolton Wanderers, even if they lose their battle against relegation.

Bolton head in this weekend, knowing that their Premier League future is not in their own hands.

Bolton need champions-elect Manchester City to beat Queens Park Rangers, whilst also grabbing three points themselves at Stoke City.

Holden himself has been unable to take any part in Bolton's season as he has been sidelined for almost all of the last 16-months with knee problems.

"I have a firm belief that won't change until the last whistle of the last game that Bolton Wanderers will remain in the Premier League," he told The Bolton News.

"There's nothing I can do and that's the hardest part for me. I can't affect the results on the pitch in terms of playing.

"But I am happy at Bolton Wanderers and I know that this is the right place for me.

"I'm a part of this club and you live and die by that. You ride the high waves and you ride the low ones.

"You can't start thinking two steps ahead because you can only really affect the present.

Quality

"We have the characters, the quality and the right people in charge to steer the ship right.

"At the end of the day, everyone wants to be a Premier League footballer and that's why everyone is at Bolton Wanderers.

"We want to play in the Premier League but it is exclusively down to us to make sure that happens.

"Whether you're contracted or out-of-contract, all that is cast aside when you go out and step over the white line.

"All that stuff that can be talked about in the locker room or the dressing room, once you get out on the pitch you're representing not the name on your back but the club whose badge is over your heart.

"That's the spirit that the gaffer has installed at Bolton for a while and that's what we need to play for.

"You get individual accolades - player of the year or goalscorers - but at the root, football is a team game and you live and die by the results of the team."

Never get into an argument with an idiot. i'll bring you down to my level and beat you with experience

I was thinking the other day about Juninho breaking down in tears on the pitch when Boro got relegated. (Whatever you think about public emotion, it certainly showed he cared.) I wondered which Bolton player would be most likely to do similar, and Stuey came to mind. He's an incredibly determined character and he's had an awful 15 months, so it would/will feel like a right kick in the nuts if the team went down – guilt, anger, frustration.

(Reo-Coker will/would be incredibly angry, then with lantern-jawed determination declare his refusal to sleep or eat until he leads the team back up.)

At no point does he say he's definately staying if we go down.

Yeah I'm not sure about Reo-Coker, I have a feeling he'd blame everybody else and jump ship.

SKD surely will be one of the most affected by it, although I can't imagine him crying! Just the absolute look of confusion, horror and not knowing what to do at Wembley on that day. All I could watch was his face when he stared up into the crowd absolutely powerless.

Didn't Holden have a tear in his eye when WBA equalised last weekend?

Emanates commitment in every game, there was downright fervour in his goal celebrations against Blackburn and Tottenham.

Having said all that, I wouldn't be able to blame him if he did. He's not been here long enough to decry him if he does leave, but I'm confident if he stays we can make a Wanderer out of him yet...

I can't see Reo-Coker slapping in a transfer request Defoe style. I'd not be surprised if he left, but I think he'd do it a bit more quietly. Seems to 'get' fans. (Isn't that why he and Bellamy fell out?). Holden. I think he cares, but equally I think he is ambitious. When he was on Football Focus he talked about ambitions of Champions League football. He was diplomatic enough to say he hoped it would be with Bolton, but I don't think he'd sacrifice his career for us, and nor should he. Like Cahill, ambitious, but respectful.

Completely forgot about that Defoe incident. Now that was a scummy move. I also remember his play acting in the game against us thinking 'cheat'. Since then he's been coming across a lot better but those WHU days.
