I did some technical training jazz today. Opened my door, ran 15 minutes towards Rivi. Turned around and came back. Took me 32mins altogether. No idea how for it was though. Got from Bay Horse almost to the top barn. Quite happy with that! Who said smoking is bad for you?!

Well done. Out and backs (what you did) should be 15 minutes out, 14 minutes back. It could also be 21 minutes out, 20 back. Basically it gets you used to the idea of running faster in the second half of a race, or 'negative split'.
And smoking IS bad for you. But I suspect you already knew that.

Still knackered from Monday's hill training.
I'll take it easy I think.
Well, I didn't.
400 runners from local clubs converged on Welwyn Garden City last night and, after I got caught at the start, I managed 45 minutes and 18 seconds. 151st overall and I took quite a few who would normally beat me.
A nice, steady 4:30 per k pace all the way round. It's still a minute slower overall than the same race two years ago, though. Need to train harder.......

Did manage some cardio at the gym today - strapped the cast on the bike and did 25 mins which was great.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Dunno if or how well you know sort of Heath Charnock/ Adlington side of Rivi, GtE, but where I went involved going down the massive bastard hill down Horrobin Lane between the reservoirs towards rivi club on the way 'out', and back up said bastard hill on the way back. The chances of me getting home quicker than I go out are fecking smallGary the Enfield wrote:Prufrock wrote:I did some technical training jazz today. Opened my door, ran 15 minutes towards Rivi. Ahh Nickelton Brow - that is one tough hill and one of those places where no matter how hard it is to run up, you overtake cyclists for whom it's even tougher!
Fell race over in Edenfield tomorrow which I'll have a bash at. Not done it before so not sure what it's like

If you're going over Scout Moor, past Waughs Well and whatnot, Harry. Then itll be wet and very windy. The best of British etc.Harry Genshaw wrote:Ahh Nickelton Brow - that is one tough hill and one of those places where no matter how hard it is to run up, you overtake cyclists for whom it's even tougher!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Sacked off the fell race (see Angry thread) and went out a bit later over Rivington & Belmont. Blimey it was rough out there today - felt like November! Coming down from Two Lads towards the quarry it felt like I was going to get blown off the hillside. Did about 7 miles but at a desperately slow pace - just one of those days today I'm afraid

Re: The athletics/running thread
Not that one, that one is probably even more of a big bastard hill! Horrobin lane is the one: Get to the top of Nickleton Brow, turn left keep going past Major Bottoms (teehee) then turn left, goes down between the reservoirs past Rivi Club, Primary School and then Church and then runs on to Sheep House Lane.Harry Genshaw wrote:Ahh Nickelton Brow - that is one tough hill and one of those places where no matter how hard it is to run up, you overtake cyclists for whom it's even tougher!

Did it again tonight. Ran out for 15, got to the same place as Thurs, annoyingly, turned around and came back in 15 too, so 2 mins faster, and UP the big bastard hill! Wooo.
