Thornleigh had one similar to that at one time. had a slope right across it. Take a corner with anything more than a side foot and it was a throw in on the other side. Also one of the smallest pitches I ever saw. Mind you, Yorkshire league pitches are all like that. On most of them they slope so much the sheep shit rolls off of its own accord.Bruce Rioja wrote:Did anyone ever have the misfortune of playing on that one at the back of Queen's Drive in Bromley Cross before they leveled it? I played on it once as a kid. I swear, if you stood at the bottom corner flag the one diagonally opposite was a good 30 feet higher. Not only that but it had a massive banking down one side towards Eagley Brook and because of the shape of the pitch the ball would naturally gravitate in this direction. The rule was whoever it came off had to go and mug it!

Nobody's mentioned the winter wonderland that's Leverhulme Park (not seen it in a fair while mind) and the back to back goalposts. Score a goal and half the players on the next pitch finished up chasing your ball and vice-versa. Several, er, altercations, took place in a regular basis.

Holden midfielder wrote:Harsh comments on Ream. Thought he adjusted pretty quick to the Prem and should excel in Tje Championship. My biggest concern is that Mills (who I rate highly) and Ream are very similar types of central defenders: fit, quick, get forward, technical, like to play their way out of the back, and very comfortable On the ball. Problem is that neither is very physical or a "presence" in the back. A cold night in some nasty, cold, windy, muddy pitch in South Bermondsey wil be a problem for them as the abuse of the home fans is hurled from the stands and the wind comes out of Cold Blow Lane. Meanwhile the opposition lumps balls non stop into our box .... You get the drift.
Now, where DID Tim Ream make his debut for us? I can't quite remember.

They must have sorted the Thorners pitch by my time TD.TANGODANCER wrote:Thornleigh had one similar to that at one time. had a slope right across it. Take a corner with anything more than a side foot and it was a throw in on the other side. Also one of the smallest pitches I ever saw.

Now, Yorkshire pitches. I played at one in Dewsbury which was more or less the usual rectangle ... well, 3 right angles and one "corner flag" which was actually an oak tree, about 4 feet into the pitch.
Not a lot too traumatic about that, unless the goat tethered to it decided to have a go at you.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

That pitch will have been conducive to your standard, Bobo. I also note that you went to Thornleigh.Hmmm. There's a pattern emerging here.bobo the clown wrote:They must have sorted the Thorners pitch by my time TD.TANGODANCER wrote:Thornleigh had one similar to that at one time. had a slope right across it. I wish to point out that I didn't go to Thornleigh. I just played a couple of times on their pitch.Bruce Rioja wrote: That pitch will have been conducive to your standard, Bobo. I also note that you went to Thornleigh.Hmmm. There's a pattern emerging here.

Only four feet in? Could be worse.thebish wrote:I think you'll find that was Paul Robinson...bobo the clown wrote: Now, Yorkshire pitches. Where was this sloping pitch then? Whenever I played at Thornleigh those pitches across the road were very decent - the one at the top on the bend was excellent.Gary the Enfield wrote:TKIZ! wrote:I know the Thornleigh one as I'm an old boy. My thoughts to. There was one with a bit of a goal to goal slope, but generally they were OK & the "first X11" pitch, which is the one Bruce is speaking about ... he must have watched his chums playing on it .... was always very decent.Bruce Rioja wrote:Where was this sloping pitch then?
