And unlike the others. Has only a matter of months left on his contract. I find Arsenals hypocrisy both laughable and insulting.

Well i find Manchester United's, Juventus' and Man citys reported bids of £8mil, £10 mil and £12 mil respectively laughable and insulting. Granted, they are a starting pooint in negotiations but why the hell shouldn't we hold out for far more then that, for what was the best player in the Premier league last year. We aren't a loaded club like some, every million counts, why should we sell our best player for less then he is worth regardless of how many months he has left on his contract?
If they want him that much they will pay a fair amount for him. I hope we sell him abroad personally, though i expect he will go to city.

I don't think he'll end up going for peanuts, but I don't think he'll go for Torres/Carroll silly money. Let's be honest, if City say (as reported) we'll offer you silly weekly wage, then he might just lose the urge to stay at Arsenal and then there's a problem - he's no use to you not playing (or sulking etc.) and you're still paying him anyhow, and he can go for nowt in Jan (or at least agree terms with someone else I think). So you end up having to head to a compromise where you probably won't get what you're after.Gooner Girl wrote:Seems we are a selling club. can;t disagree with thatWorthy4England wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:why should we sell our best player for less then he is worth regardless of how many months he has left on his contract?

I know we are a bit over a barrel with his contract ending but i don't think he would be the type to sulk/not play. Would hope he's more professional then that. Having said that, i'd rather he went now then Jan - i don't want him as club captain if he ends up staying because no fee can be agreed.Worthy4England wrote:I don't think he'll end up going for peanuts, but I don't think he'll go for Torres/Carroll silly money. That's what we did with Cahill. Yet your club and some of its fans set about ridiculing the club and even your manager went to the trouble of slating us in the media. All because you didn't offer us enough money. City, United and Juve haven't done this.. You know why? Because they're bett than that!Gooner Girl wrote:Seems we are a selling club. can;t disagree with thatWorthy4England wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:why should we sell our best player for less then he is worth regardless of how many months he has left on his contract?

It's not nice when the big boys come in waving cheque books and tapping up the players that you have developed.
Welcome to our world, GG.
I don't think that Arsenal will get too much sympathy here as they used to be a leading exponent of the art - before they lost the money game.

Because, as said above, in today's football, you are either a hunter or the hunted ... probably both.Gooner Girl wrote:why should we sell our best player for less then he is worth regardless of how many months he has left on his contract?
Last year when Wenger decided to offer us b-all for Cahill & then derided us for saying "no thanks then" you were the hunters. Bigger, richer club with better prospects.
In this case, bigger, richer clubs, with better prospects are doing it to you ... & you're the hunted.
It's how it is ... & it's horrible.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

It's pretty hard to feel particularly sympathetic.
Re: Diving Arsenal Players - The Least Shocking Admission Ev

They've agreed to sell RVP to United.

Wonder if they've found a buyer for Berbatov yet.

Pissed right off. Good price for an injury prone 29 year old - yes. Selling to Man Utd? I'd rather have sold to City - or anyone else (bar Spurs) What is Wenger thinking? Maybe he had little choice, but FFS! United????
And as for RVP himself... I rarely boo players if i am there when they return to the club - the only exceptions being Adebayor and Cashley - but him, he will deserve all the abuse he will get from the crowd. Traitor.

Is van Persie playing?
My goodness, if he gets two hat tricks home and away then Wenger might as well pack his valise and head of to Sheffield. What a shock!

Dunno why you're so anti United in the sense that the last time you got more points than them, Van Persie was in his first season with you and bagged less goals than Kevin Davies.Gooner Girl wrote:Pissed right off. Since then, you've finished nearer upper mid-table than challenging the red bastards.
Nearer to 9th on points than to United (2005/6)
Nearer to 11th on points than to United (2006/7)
4 points behind them (2007/8)
Nearer to 6th than to United (2008/9)
Nearer to 6th than to United (2009/10)
Nearer to 7th than to United (2010/11)
Nearer to 8th than to United (2011/12)
So generally, you're nearer to Everton, Liverpool, Fulham and Spurs. You should probably be delighted none of them bought him.

I'm surprised Arsenal did this. If the boot had been on the other foot there is absolutely no way Ferguson would let his best striker go to one of their rivals - and however poor they have been in recent years they are still rivals to Utd. There were sides abroad supposed to be interested so the Gooners could have offered him to them for a little less.
Fingers crossed his injury jinx starts again very soon

I don't believe that the rivals theory is really borne out in a competitive sense, Chelsea are nearer in the last 10 years.Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm surprised Arsenal did this. United have unfortunately won 12 out of the 20 Prem campaigns and second on 5 occasions. Other winners are Arsenal 3, Chelsea 3, Citeh 1 and Blackburn 1.
So you could argue, that on the offchance United feck it up, Arsenal are as likely as Chelsea to step in, but Arsenal's wins were 9, 11 and 15 years ago, Chelsea have a better recent record and there's also the mahoosives to consider now.
Arsenal's main competition last season was to stay in front of Spurs.
The myth that there's a big 4, is just that. It's not true.
